During the taping of last week's Late Show with David Letterman on CBS, David Letterman announced that he will soon be stepping down as host of the late night show. (Watch Letterman's historic announcement here!)

Since then, there has been a great deal of speculation as to who will take over the coveted position. Among the names being bandied about is How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris.

According to Variety, when asked if he was interested in taking on the hosting gig at a press event today, Harris replied, "I'm super focused on 'Hedwig' at the moment, so that hasn't even been a part of the conversation at all." However the Emmy and Tony host added, "But I'm a big fan of CBS and Les'," referring to CBS CEO Leslie Moonves.

Asked if he thought having his own late night show would be fun, NPH joked, "It would be an asinine amount of work."

NPH returns to Broadway in the new production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the musical with book by Joh nCameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, directed byMichael Mayer. The limited engagement began previews on Saturday, March 29 for a Tuesday, April 22 opening night at the Belasco Theatre.
