Friday, October 3rd

All times are Eastern

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY | 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM | HBO
For many, Ben Stiller is, at best, a hit or miss actor. He's not really someone you can count on for a nuanced performance. However, in this remake of the 1947 film of the same name (both based on the classic James Thurber short story), Stiller is surprisingly impressive. The new version a beautifully shot movie with great the music. The location shots are breathtaking and Kristen Wiig adds a new level to her career.

VAN HELSING | 8:00-11:00pm | AMC
I'm not sure how this film qualifies to air on "American Movie Classics," but whatever the reason, it is always nice to see Tony-winning London OKLAHOMA co-stars Hugh Jackman and Shuler Hensley on screen together. Jackman plays the titular vampire hunter, while Hensley embodies a different incarnation of the creature he would later play in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN: THE MUSICAL on Broadway.

AMERICAN'S NEXT TOP MODEL | 9:00-10:00pm | The CW
On this week's ANTM, the contestants show off their acting skills for a chance to earn a speaking role on a TV show. Now, I don't want to cast aspersions on these lovely young women, but I am going to watching this just for the chance that one of them does something ridiculous.

AUSTIN CITY LIMITS | 9:00-10:00pm | PBS
The legendary country music series celebrates its 40th Anniversary with classic clips and can't miss performance. A bunch of unknown entertainers name Jeff Bridges, Sheryl Crow, and Matthew McConaughey host, as luminaries including Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Crow, The Foo Fighters, Buddy Guy, Kris Kristofferson, and Bonnie Raitt perform.
