From Goundam and Niafunke, the heart of Mali's blues delta, virtuoso Mamadou Kelly is a fixture in two of the most famous groups in Malian musical history, Ali Farka Toure's All Stars and Afel Bocoum's AlkibaR. Kelly accompanied these greats on many of their world tours along with two other members of his group, Ban Kai Na. With their encyclopedic knowledge of Mali's music, Kelly and Ban Kai Na bring new sophistication to the sounds from Niafunke. They represent the contemporary expression of traditional West African sounds - smooth vocals and deceptively effortless musicianship quickly charming audiences. Kelly's broad smile belies a determined professional and his lyrical style combines with Ban Kai Na's virtuoso delivery to bring gracious hospitality to the concert stage.

Marie-claire's jazz band, me and the boys, combines golden age jazz, with elements of opera and hip-hop to bring the audience a sound like no other. Born in Dominica West Indies and raised in the Bronx, marie-claire's love for both cultures has influenced her to be an international performer, splitting her time between the locales. Marie-claire has performed all over the world, sharing the stage with notable artists including Jamaica's Bob Andy and Earl "Chinna" Smith, Jeff Goldblum and the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra in LA, and Will Calhoun in Columbia. She was classically trained with Raymond Buckingham, who recognized the rich and deep vocal timbre of her voice, discovering she is a rare operatic contralto. This discovery, in tandem with her extensive vocal training, led to her debut at Carnegie Hall with the New York Grand Opera Company in the role of Maddalena from Verdi's Rigoletto.

Ghost Quartet is Dave Malloy's haunted song cycle about love, death and whisky. The show returns in a concert version, in preparation for its premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August. A camera breaks and four friends drink, in four interwoven narratives spanning seven centuries: a warped fairy tale about two sisters; a retelling of Poe's The Fall of the House of Usher; a purgatorial intermezzo about Scheherazade; and a contemporary fable about a subway murder. Murder ballads, doo-wop, jazz noise and raucous campfire drinking songs collide in this chamber musical from Malloy, composer of the Broadway-bound Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. This concert will feature Malloy, Comet stars Brittain Ashford and Gelsey Bell and cellist Brent Arnold. The show is designed by Christopher Bowser and directed by Annie Tippe.

Mekaal Hasan Band, founded by Hasan in 2000, features traditional music from the subcontinent in a progressive rock-jazz based musical style. The band achieved mainstream success from their recordings and live performances throughout the sub-continent and across the fusion world from 2004 onwards. The band won numerous awards for their intense live performances and became representative of a modern yet traditional style of South Asian music with roots in folk, classical and jazz. They also established literary roots in poetry and writings of Sufi sages and modern Punjabi poets like Amrita Pritam.

Ann Liv Young is a choreographer, performer, creative director, and sometimes Sherry. Young was born on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and has been creating performance work for over eight years. Her work has been presented at major venues and festivals in New York City and Europe such as MoMA PS1, Brooklyn Museum, American Realness, steirischer herbst, Kampnagel, Inkonst Malmö, Gessnerallee Zürich, Theatre de la Bastille, and Black Box Teater, among others. She was shortlisted for the 2013 Venice Biennale. Sherry, a character created by Young, has been branching out and breaking free of the churches and theaters of the bourgeoisie. She has her own truck, "Sherry Truck" which can be seen driving around giving Sherapy and pink lattes to the masses.

You might have caught a glimpse of Alexis & the Samurai's multi-instrumental exploits on HBO's Tremé and NBC's The Voice. However, it's the pair's off-screen efforts that have been earning them even better ratings. After losing everything in Hurricane Katrina, Alexis Marceaux has spent the last several years rebuilding his home and his career. The process has been hard-fought but fruitful, with appearances at Jazz Fest, Voodoo Music Experience, SXSW, the Kennedy Center and several tours of the US and Europe. More recently, Alexis & the Samurai's fanbase has grown through Marceaux's performances on The Voice. Alexis & the Samurai are due for an EP release in the coming months.

Todd Almond is a composer/performer who has spent the past three years creating and composing epic musical theater pieces. Some of his works for The Public Theater include The Tempest, The Winter's Tale, and last summer's The Odyssey. Almond wrote original music for the Roundabout Theater's hit revival of Noises Off! and he has collaborated with many writers including Sarah Ruhl on Melancholy Play, Jenny Schwartz on the Lucille Lortel nominated musical Iowa, Marcus Gardley on On The Levee, Adam Bock and others. As a book writer, his musical Girlfriend has been produced around the country. As a music director/arranger Todd works frequently with Sherie Rene Scott, Laura Benanti, Judy Kuhn, Kelli O'Hara and Donna Murphy. This evening will be an intimate performance with Todd at the piano singing new songs, and some unexpected covers. This evening will also feature Michael C. Hall best known for his role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime's Dexter as well as the title roll in the recent revival in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Awash in danger, spiritual uncertainty and environmental fury, the lyrical concerns on Tony Joe White's latest album, Hoodoo, are matched by a particularly intense strain of White's trademark swamp funk. Hence the title's double-edged meaning: "hoodoo" refers to both the songs' ominous tone and the palpable vibe that filled the studio as the songs were cut. Cut mostly live to tape - vocals and all - much of Hoodoo consists of first takes. Culled from an initial stack of 17 or 18 tunes, the nine songs that comprise the album come alive in the haunting atmosphere and intensity of the stripped-down recording process.

Talking Drums is a multi-media project by Sergio Krakowski that breaks new ground in the realm of solo percussion expression. Krakowski developed his own self-taught technique on the Pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine) and found himself engaged in a successful international career. He moved to New York City in 2013 and since then he has performed at The Lincoln Center, 54 Below and the Umbria Winter Jazz Festival. Krakowski's goal for this project is to use technology to make the drum speak. There is strong artistic research as to what limit exists between rhythm and spoken language, and this piece aims to take you to an ancient time where the distance between those two things was nonexistent.

New York-based acts The Sway Machinery and Hydra launch a dynamic collaboration exploring familial intimacy alongside musical ritual. The groups mix rich vocals with robust musicianship and evocative performance in their musical exploration of zemiros, a genre of Jewish folk music sung at the table among families. Zemiros act both as source material and framework for exploring this ritual music which is at once humble and transcendental. Through the marriage of historical folksong, alongside a uniquely contemporary musical palette and performative aesthetic, a powerful project is born.

This band of Colombians has built a fervent underground following with two-and-a-half years of nearly non-stop touring in South America. El Caribefunk's rhythm and positive energy gets people dancing from the first note.
Listening to Ryan Tennis is like taking a road trip to a new place with an old friend. His songs range from soul-touching acoustic ballads to roots funk and soul to rollicking reggae covers, but groove and warmth belie it all, keeping his listener moving forward. His sound has drawn comparisons to Paul Simon, Bill Withers and Ben Harper - surprising likenesses for an all-American college football player turned singer-songwriter.

Amy Leon is a 24-year-old musician, poet, writer and performer, transcendent beyond her years. She fuses original music and poetry to illuminate social inequality, blackness and what it is to be woman. Her debut show, Impossible to Love, is a work-in-progress play, written by and starring Leon, with music. Leon is a vessel for the beauty, the pain and humor that reflects all that is right and wrong in the world. This performance, co-created and directed by Kathy Najimy, is the very first production of the piece that will hopefully find its way to a longer New York City run.

Ava Rocha is a singer, songwriter and filmmaker. She has released two albums: Diurno was released in 2011 and her latest album Ava Patrya Yndia Yracema was released in March 2015. Rocha was awarded with APCA as Best New Artist and was indicated by Spotify as one of the 15 artists to be followed in 2016. Rocha, who lives in Rio and is 36 years old, evokes expressions from the 60's and 70's. This expression is reflected in Ava Patrya Yndia Yracema with a hint of tropicalism, with string arrangements, distorted guitars and experimental moments scattered throughout the album.

Peter Legat of Vienna, Austria is the mastermind and guitarist behind the band Count Basic. Add the incredible vocal power of Kelli Sae, a New York City native, and you have an earth-shaking combination of soul, funk, jazz and dance rhythms that are undeniably joyful and uplifting. On their latest release Sweet Spot, Legat and Sae have joined forces with Grammy Award-winning producers and songwriters Shannon Sanders and Drew Ramsey who produced hits for India Arie, John Legend, Heather Headley and more.
