The World Premiere of Laureen Vonnegut's new play The Porcini Test premieres July 17 at the Promenade Playhouse in Santa Monica (1404 3rd Street Promenade, 90401). Written and directed by Vonnegut, The Porcini Test's creative team includes Argent Lloyd (Light, Sound and Set Design), Leslie Bedolla (Wardrobe),Hélène Ayllon (Stage Manager). This dark comedy stars Nancy Young, Gregory Niebel, Paul Keany, Tania Gonzalez, Danette Garrelts, Garrett Camilleri, and Seth Wayne. The Porcini Test runs through August 22 playing on Friday & Saturday at 8 pm and Sunday at 7 pm. Tickets are $30 and available for purchase at http://buytickets.at/theporcinitest/27010.

Kat is under house arrest when two of her lifelong friends, along with various lovers and husbands, arrive unannounced. The evening ignites with accusations and realizations and finishes with the question every woman wants to ask. "The Porcini Test" is about old friends with hidden truths, girlfriends with concealed weapons, and boyfriends who need to know their fungi.

Laureen Vonnegut is an American fiction writer, filmmaker and playwright. Her first novel, OASIS (Counterpoint/ Perseus Books), was hailed as "a completely original literary milestone" (Strand) and "possessing a Felliniesque delirium, geopolitical knowingness, and womanly-wise toughness" (American Library Association). Her latest book, TWIN LIES (Skorpion Press), is read in book clubs from Alaska to Bulgaria. Over twenty of her short stories and movie scripts have been published worldwide, and she was shortlisted for an Ian St. James Award.

Vonnegut wrote and directed several short films, including CUCKOO AND ICE CREAM (winner of the Orange award, Best in Festival) , DON'T SAY I LOVE YOU and SEQUESTRO EXPRESS. Her short film STUFF THAT BEAR! opened at the Cannes Film Festival, was shown in more than 100 festivals worldwide and won 16 awards. She co-produced the soon to be released feature film THE DOT MAN. Her revenge thriller THREE WAY WEEK, shot in 2013, is in post-production.

Mexico is her home base, a converted cookie factory her abode, along with various critters, including a two-legged one. She maintains a residence in Romania and has lived in England, Portugal, Holland, Bulgaria and Hungary. She is working on a series of short stories, her next theater play and seeking producers for her film script THIS IS PALM SPRINGS.
