Megan Furniss and one of her long-
time improv colleagues, Ryan Jales

Improv makes its way back to the Alexander Bar, Theatre and Café with Megan Furniss and company in the hour-long TWO PARROTS AND A SANDCASTLE.

TWO PARROTS AND A SANDCASTLE was named by accident as the title of three improv shows featuring Furniss, Cape Town's longest running improviser. On each night she will be joined by another fellow improviser and they will perform an hour of two-hander improv, with absolutely nothing planned and where anything can happen.

Furniss brought TheatreSports to Cape Town in 1993, and she has been improvising anywhere for anyone ever since. In the last four years, influenced by exciting improv people and groups on her travels, she has been experimenting with different formats of improv. Last year she tried out a series of one-woman and two-person shows and she loved them, and so did the audiences at the Alexander Bar and Theatre, the perfect intimate space for trying out anything risky or strange. This time around she starts off the year with only three shows, and three different creative partners, Tandi Buchan, Leon Clingman and Brett Anderson.

Following the style of long-form improv, the performers will (possibly) get a few suggestions from the audience, and then just make it up, for an hour. If you are looking for the perfect creative kick start to your January, this is probably it.

TWO PARROTS AND A SANDCASTLE runs from 19 - 21 January at 19:00, with tickets available from the Alexander Bar website. Tickets cost R80 if booked and prepaid online, while tickets will also be available at the door for R90. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652. The Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre is situated at 76 Strand Street in the Cape Town city centre and can be followed on Facebook and Twitter.
