Lauren Casey Hayes and Adam Blanshay present a reading - free and open to the public - of celebrated Canadian playwright Steve Galluccio's IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO on Monday, February 8th at 7:00pm and Tuesday, February 9th at 11:00am at the Soho Playhouse (15 Vandam Street) in Manhattan. This reading will mark the U.S. premiere of IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO as well as the New York City debut of Mr. Galluccio as a playwright.

From the celebrated author of MAMBO ITALIANO comes IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO, a light-hearted and thoroughly entertaining comedy about love, lust and misunderstandings, inspired by Feydeau, Goldini and Sophia Loren. It's a burning hot August in Naples, 1952 - "earthquake weather" and the citizens of Piazza San Domenico are all stirred up when Carmelina Benevento suddenly faints upon hearing some bad news about her fiancé, Guido. A series of conspicuous sightings between people provoke gossip. Misinterpretations ensue as The Players contrive their own schemes and desperately try to keep face. But love and earth tremors have a way of setting things straight.

IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO received its world-premiere production by the Centaur Theatre Company in Montreal earlier this season under the direction of Roy Surette.

The reading - which has direction by Adam Blanshay - will reunite the cast of the World-Premiere of IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO: Carl Alacchi, Christina Broccolini, Guido Cocomello, Ellen David, Mara Lalli, Michel Perron, Vittorio Rossi and Jocelyn Zucco.

Steve Galluccio is the celebrated Canadian playwright and screenwriter who started his career in the Montreal underground theatre scene in the 1990's. He achieved mainstream notoriety with MAMBO ITALIANO, one of the most successful plays in Canadian theatre history, which was turned into a film of the same name. Galluccio followed MAMBO ITALIANO with the Gemini Award-winning Television series "Ciao Bella." Galluccio's second feature film "Surviving My Mother" won the audience favorite award at the Montreal Film Festival. Earlier this season, Galluccio's newest play IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO opened to critical raves in Montreal, where it played to sold out houses and extended its initial run. This reading of IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO will mark Mr. Galluccio's professional New York City debut..

Adam Blanshay most recently produced Daniel Mitura's new stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray at The Kirk Theatre, and Daniel MacIvor's His Greatness at the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival and NYC Fringe Encore Series. Additional producing credits include Alexander Pushkin's Little Tragedies (Baryshnikov Arts Center), Scott Nevins' One Night Stand (New World Stages), Scott Nevins' RECE$IONI$TA & Celebutant (US National Tours), and Piazza After Dark (Centaur Theatre, Montreal). His directing credits include off-Broadway: Piaf: Love Conquers All (SoHo Playhouse), The Black Monk (Theatre Row/Beckett Theatre), The Second Tosca (45th Street Theatre), Clean (Urban Stages), A Woman Of Will (Daryl Roth Theatre). Regional: Evita (Moyse Hall, McGill). Opera: La Boheme, Tosca (Regina Opera, Brooklyn, NY), Le nozze di Figaro (Modus Opera, NYC), Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Le Médecin Malgré Lui (IVAI, Tel Aviv). Upcoming projects include The Transport Group's revival of Hello Again, and Les Contes d'Hoffmann at Santa Fe Opera. Mr. Blanshay was the Assistant Director of the World Premiere production of IN PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO at the Centaur Theatre in Montreal.
