Andrey Pisarev

This year's series of chamber music concerts presented at Nederburg in Paarl concludes on Sunday, 2 November with a performance by the award-winning Russian pianist, Andrey Pisarev. His much anticipated piano recital at Nederburg will be dedicated to the music of Franz Schubert and Frederic Chopin.

During the first half, Schubert's monumental Piano Sonata in B-flat Major, D 960, the composer's last sonata, can be heard. A further treat follows after interval with a performance of the four Scherzos by Frederic Chopin. These include Opus 20 No 1, Opus 31 No 2, Opus 39 No 3 and Opus 54 No 4.

All the works are regarded as major achievements in the history of classical music and set the bar for many composers following in the footsteps of these great masters.

Pisarev, who is no stranger to the concert platforms of South Africa, won First Prize at the Unisa International Piano Competition in 1992 and has been wowing local audiences with his total command of the piano ever since.

Following a recital in 2006, a reviewer for the Swedish newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad wrote:

In April 2004 I believed that Andrey Pisarev was the best pianist I have ever heard, and this opinion remains after his recital.... The expression "world pianist" is not an exaggeration regarding him.

Pisarev, who combines an international performing career with his position as Professor at the Moscow Conservatory, began his musical education at the age of seven. Born in the Ukraine, he moved to Moscow in 1978 to study at the Music School and then at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

The concert on 2 November takes place in the beautiful Nederburg manor house and starts at 17:00. Tickets at R200 per person include Nederburg wines as well as a delicious finger supper after the performance. Bookings can be made during office hours on 021 809 8412 or by sending an email to concerts@distell.co.za.
