On May 4, Pace University's inaugural Pace Presents season brings American Ballet Theatre Studio Company (formerly ABT II) to the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts in Lower Manhattan. Made up of dancers aged 16-20, the company's members are all training for professional careers with ABT or other national and international ballet companies. Reviewing a 2010 performance The New York Times noted that "there was a sense that it might be just as gratifying to be in the junior company as the main one."

ABT's high reputation for the best in professional ballet extends to its training. Members of the ABT Studio Company participate in a pre-professional program consisting of a rigorous schedule of classes and rehearsals. Their range of study includes ballet technique, Pointe, partnering, modern, mime and acting, Pilates, dance history and more. Masterworks from noted choreographers such as George Balanchine, Marius Petipa and Paul Taylor are taught alongside current and upcoming ballet choreographers.

For Pace Presents the ABT Studio Company will perform excerpts from their mixed repertoire of classical and contemporary works, offering a peak at the next generation of ballet. The program will include George Balanchine's "Tarantella," excerpts from Agnes De Mille's Broadway works, Anton Dolin's "Variations for Four," Susan Jaffe's "We Insist," and Antony Tudor's "Soirée Musicale."

The small company of 14 includes Amanda De Oliveira, Beau Fisher, Gabrielle Johnson, Lindsay Karchin, Shu Kinouchi, Lucius Kirst, Alex Kramer, Carolyn Lippert, Sem Sjouke, Brianna Steinfeldt, Gabe Stone Shayer, Paulina Waski, Lily Wisdom and Zhang Zhiyao.

About Pace Presents
Pace University is pleased to unveil the inaugural season of Pace Presents, a new annual series of performing and visual arts programs at the school's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts. Directed by Martin I. Kagan, the Center's newly appointed Director of Cultural Affairs, the series is conceived as a platform to bring international artists and ensembles of the highest quality to downtown audiences at affordable prices and exemplifies the university's commitment to community development in Lower Manhattan.

About the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts
Pace University's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts, located within the University's downtown campus, has been an integral part of the Lower Manhattan community for almost 35 years. Located one block east of City Hall and at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, its 672-seat theatre is just a few blocks from the cobblestoned "Theatre Alley" that ran along the stage doors of some of the earliest theatres in Manhattan.

In addition to hosting academic and community events, the Schimmel Theatre presents an active season of interNational Theatre, dance and music. It was also a founding venue for the River-to-River Festival. In the aftermath of 9/11, the theatre hosted both the Tribeca Film Festival and the Tribeca Theatre Festival. From 2002 to 2004, the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts was the home of the National Actors Theatre. Television broadcast highlights include the only Democratic Presidential Debate to present all ten 2002 candidates and James Lipton's award-winning series Inside the Actors Studio, which has been taped on the Schimmel Theatre's stage since 2005.
