MONTEREY, Calif.

For centuries, children around the world have been taught about five senses: see the light of the sun, hear the wind blow, taste the salt of the sea, smell the fresh-cut grass, touch the dog's shaggy fur. Author Salmeh Moghimi offers an alternative view: what if we also learn about the world with our feelings?

In Moghimi's new book "The Adventures of Anoo and Pashmack," readers follow the title characters (a young girl and her cat) on their adventures as they discover new ways to experience the world around them.

"My book teaches children to value and have respect for their own feelings as well as for life," Moghimi explained.

The author hopes children will learn to use their intuition, or "heart sense," as well as their other senses. She believes animals should be a part of people's early experiences as they can help validate children's feelings and other senses.
