Dialogue with Three Chords (D3C) close out 2016 with a reading of THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT COUNTRY SONGS, featuring Lynn Cohen (Sex and The City, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) and Sean Meehan (The Normal Heart, The Deuce). Written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto, the full-length original play sees its debut at 8pm on Thursday, October 27, downstairs at Mr. Dennehy's on 63 Carmine Street, New York, NY 10014. Admission is free with a $3 suggested donation.

THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT COUNTRY SONGS is a two-person play about Amos (Meehan), a young man and career criminal, going to visit Darla (Cohen), his dying mother, for the last time. Gracia explained that the play was "based on the real life story of Christopher Daniel Gay, who escaped custody several times" to visit his father, and later his mother, on their deathbeds.

At the family home in Tennessee, Darla and Amos drink bourbon and wait for the cops to arrive as they discuss raw deal handed to the rural poor and argue about Country music.

THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT COUNTRY SONGS ends the first half of D3C's sixth season of independent, original theatre. This season offers a series of full-length plays, continuing into 2017. In their over five years in residency at Dennehy's, D3C has produced nearly 100 original works.

Gracia and LoPorto were thrilled to have both Cohen and Meehan on board for the reading, D3C's final performance of 2016. According to Gracia, THE SAD TRUTH ABOUT COUNTRY SONGS "is a play about the ways we fail despite best intentions and the felonies we commit for love."

Gracia and LoPorto founded D3C in 2011 around the aesthetic of do-it-yourself, punk rock theatre. In that time, their shows have featured musicians, poets, and burlesque performers. They've partnered with the Brooklyn College BFA acting program, and local independent theatre groups such as BrooklynONE, to produce innovative and challenging free theatre to New York City.
