Since Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" published in 1859, the creation and evolution debate has mostly been an acrimonious one. Jacques Van Heerden proposes a synthesis of the two concepts, something he deems as possible through a re-evaluation of the inspired account in the first three chapters of Genesis. He explains this in his new book, "Creation and Evolution" (published by AuthorHouse).

"This does not mean that Scripture is 'twisted' to conform to science," Van Heerden writes, "but in the Western world, the text is normally read from a Greek-Roman perspective; however, the Bible was written from a Hebrew perspective and is very rich in symbolism. If this is applied to Genesis, the meaning of the text is quite different to what was naively understood. God is the Creator, bound by neither space nor time, who loves his Creation and particularly the people who are conformed to the image of Christ."

"Creation and Evolution" concludes with a reference to Beethoven's ninth symphony, which sings the praises of God, and these words:

"I see, in my mind's eye, our Heavenly Father, conducting this symphony which we call 'Creation', calling every instrument among trillions upon a trillion trillions, to cue, everything in perfect harmony for more than 13 billion years and bring it all to a glorious conclusion."
