Italian-American Actor Anthony Gurino Takes on New Role With Foundation 'Dad's Away'

With more than a dozen acting credits to his name, it certainly can't be denied that Italian-American actor, AnthonyL. Gurino isn't new to the industry. Born and raised in Howard Beach, NY, Gurino is a Meisner-trained actor and has studied at a number of highly-regarded programs in both New York City and Los Angeles, including the Esper Studio, Actors Alliance, New York Film Academy, and with the highly-respected acting coach, James Brill at the Legendary Neighborhood Playhouse.

Anthony landed his first role at the age of nine on the CBS series "The Equalizer." His other credits include, the 2007 mega blockbuster, "American Gangster" as well as "The Night Never Sleeps," "The Sinatra Club," "Wings of the Dragon," and his most recent film, "Send No Flowers," which co-stars award-winning actress, Sean Young, made a smashing debut at the 16th Annual Long Island International Film Expo where the film won six awards. He also recently read for a role in the new Clint Eastwood-directed film, "Jersey Boys."

Gurino is also a philanthropist at heart. At age 12, both his father and uncle were sentenced to several years behind bars. Remembering how this dramatically impacted his life, he decided to help make a difference in the lives of children who were experiencing the same situation and founded "Dad's Away" - an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children who were abandoned or are from single parent homes including youth that currently have a parent incarcerated. "Dad's Away" is dedicated to providing homework tutoring, sports education, career mentorship, and holiday celebrations; that will create life-long memories, and positively impact a child's view of themselves and their value in the world.

Gurino also holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance degree from St. John's University. In addition to being a licensed Insurance Specialist in all life, health, accident, property and casualty insurance he is a Registered Representative with the NASD and holds 5 different security licenses.
