4:48 PSYCHOSIS, Kneehigh's TRISTAN & YSEULT, Wooster's CRY, TROJANS! and More Set for 2014-15 at St. Ann's Warehouse

St. Ann's Warehouse, which for 35 years has brought new works to New York by the world's most vital theater- and music-makers, will soon open its first permanent home, a 25,000-sf cultural center at the breathtaking site of the Tobacco Warehouse, on the waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park. While construction continues and St. Ann's works to raise the final $2 million of its $30 million capital campaign, the organization will present a stellar final season in its temporary home at 29 Jay Street in DUMBO.

It kicks off this October when TR Warszawa and director Grzegorz Jarzyna return for the American Premiere of their internationally acclaimed production of Sarah Kane's 4:48 Psychosis, which St. Ann's Founder / Artistic Director Susan Feldman has wanted to bring to New York since she first saw it in February 2004 -- the same year St. Ann's presented the American Premiere of the original Royal Court production of Kane's play. St. Ann's Warehouse also announced the following season highlights today: Emma Rice and Kneehigh, The Wooster Group, the Slovenian choral group Carmina Slovenica, and The Tiger Lillies.

"It's going to be a wonderful season of returning friends and new ones, full of shows that have spectacular music at the center of the drama," said Susan Feldman. Regarding the Tobacco Warehouse, she added, "We're really looking forward to it. 29 Jay has been a great space for us to continue to hone and sharpen our tools, as we build for the future just downriver. We are so grateful for this interim space, and look forward to setting down roots a year from now."

The American Premiere of Grzegorz Jarzyna-directed 4:48 Psychosis, October 16 - 26, marks both the 15th anniversary of Sarah Kane's death and ten years since the American Premiere of Kane's play. 2004 was also the year Susan Feldman saw Jarzyna's production of Kane's dramatic polemic, and she has been wanting to bring it to New York ever since. Feldman's experience with TR and Jarzyna launched a decade-long relationship with the company, whose work St. Ann's has presented frequently, starting with Risk Everything in 2004. Magdalena Cielecka, whom New York audiences saw at St. Ann's in TR's production Festen, gives a spectacular starring performance, praised by The Guardian in a four-star review as "so fierce and fiery that even when she has been swallowed by the light, you feel you can still glimpse her scorched image somewhere in the shadows."

St. Ann's welcomes back The Tiger Lillies, the wondrously wicked cabaret icons, for a three-performance run (October 30 - November 1) of a new show, Songs of Horror and Havoc. The group's performances at St. Ann's are perennially sold-out audience favorites, and this is the group's first performance in St. Ann's temporary home at 29 Jay. Halloween is the perfect time to experience their hilariously twisted songs, sung by founding member Martyn Jacques, who has elicited such colorful appellations as "the criminal castrati" and "Tom Waits on helium."

Kneehigh's Tristan & Yseult, written by Carl Grose & Anna Maria Murphy and adapted and directed by Emma Rice, is the production that catapulted the beloved company onto the national -- and, soon after, international -- stage. The Guardian has raved,"If this show doesn't make you fall in love with theatre, there's no potion on Earth that can help you." Based on an ancient tale from Cornwall, Tristan & Yseult revels in forbidden desires, broken hearts, grand passions and tender truths. It's another marriage of gorgeous music and ingenious staging from the creators of Brief Encounter and The Wild Bride. St. Ann's presents the New York Premiere November 13 - December 7.

For five performances only January 8 - 11, 2015, St. Ann's Warehouse will present the American premiere of Toxic Psalms, from Carmina Slovenica, a vocal ensemble that has garnered international praise for its choral storytelling works. Produced by Beth Morrison Projects, HERE and Carmina Slovenica, and directed by Carmina Slovenica Artistic Director Karmina Šilec, Toxic Psalms is written in response to the violences and victimizations, experienced globally, especially against women. The production makes clear why Carmina Slovenica has been called "mesmerizing" and "a phenomenon in itself" (Financial Times).

In the spring, St. Ann's Warehouse welcomes back The Wooster Group for two consecutive productions, the New York Premiere of Cry, Trojans! (Troilus & Cressida)(March 24 - April 19, 2015) and Early Shaker Spirituals: A Record Album Interpretation (April 23 - May 3, 2015), which Ben Brantley of The New York Times has called "profoundly affecting."

Construction is well underway at 45 Water Street, (the Tobacco Warehouse), which will be the permanent address of St. Ann's Warehouse for the next 50 years. St. Ann's is transforming the historic building -- originally constructed in 1860, roofless and in disrepair for decades -- into New York City's finest waterfront cultural center. At the new theater, which will recreate St. Ann's signature open, flexible footprint, St. Ann's Warehouse will continue its history of innovative theater productions and special concert presentations, like Lou Reed's Berlin, Kneehigh's Brief Encounter, National Theatre of Scotland's Black Watch and the Donmar's Julius Caesar, to name just a few. Since its founding in 1980, St. Ann's has done this vital work in found, temporary spaces it has activated in downtown Brooklyn.

Carmina Slovenica is a Slovenian "vocal theatre" company, world renowned for their unconventional choral storytelling, adding opera, drama, and movement. In Toxic Psalms, the almost sinister music mirrors the unspeakable violences and victimizations across our world today. Channeling ancient and modern humanities, the ensemble of 34 young women invokes Africa, the Middle East, Pussy Riot, weapons, extinctions, contaminations and abuses of religions -everywhere violence against others is exalted and deified. In the age of #YesAllWomen and #NotOneMore, Carmina Slovenica is a mighty arsenal for fighting back, igniting the anthem that "something has to be done."

Toxic Psalmsis a part of the Prototype Festival, with lead funding from the Andrew W. Cry, Trojans! originated as a coproduction with the Royal Shakespeare Company of Troilus and Cressida. In that collaboration, the two companies took opposite sides in the Trojan War. Seeking an American angle for this encounter with the RSC and the language of Shakespeare, the Wooster Group, along with Dutch artist Folkert deJong, reimagined the Trojans as a fictional tribe of early Americans struggling to assert its dignity as doom closes in.

The Wooster Group now has adapted the collaboration into an independent piece. The spirit of the absent enemy/collaborator still manifests in various ways, but Cry, Trojans!concentrates on the Trojan side of the story: the corruption of sincere love and the downfall of a noble hero.

Directed by Elizabeth LeCompte, featuring Jim Fletcher, Ari Fliakos, Koosil-ja, Greg Mehrten, Suzzy Roche, Scott Shepherd, Casey Spooner, and Kate Valk. Set elements, props, and costumes by Folkert de Jong; sound score by Bruce Odland; lighting by Jennifer Tipton.

In Early Shaker Spirituals, The Wooster Group channels the 1976 LP of the same name recorded by the Sisters of the Shaker Community in Sabbathday Lake, Maine, giving a new live rendering to their songs and finding inspiration for a series of dances. Directed by Kate Valk, the cast features Cynthia Hedstrom, Elizabeth LeCompte, Frances McDormand, Bebe Miller, Suzzy Roche and Max Bernstein, Matthew Brown, Modesto Jimenez, Bobby McElver, Jamie Poskin and Andrew Schneider. The production includes lighting design by Jennifer Tipton, set design by Elizabeth LeCompte and Jim Clayburgh, and costumes by Enver Chakartash.
