Review: EXPENDABLE, Royal Court Theatre by Katie Kirkpatrick
- December 01, 2024 Expendable, written by Emteaz Hussain, all takes place in a family kitchen. As the play begins, we meet Zara (Avita Jay) – a Pakistani mother living in northern England – as she chops onions. This environment of domestic familiarity is quickly disturbed by a knock on the door, and a buzz of tension and fear descends on the scene. From this starting point, the show develops into a morally complex examination of the intersection of sexism and racism in British Muslim communities.

Review: ONE MAN MUSICAL, Soho Theatre by Kat Mokrynski
- November 29, 2024 Written by comedy duo Flo & Joan and directed by Georgie Straight, One Man Musical has quite the simple description - an “original one-man musical about a very renowned gentleman.” This isn’t going to be a one man musical about just any ordinary man. Instead, we’re going to be taking a peek into the mind of one of the world’s most (in)famous musical theatre giants - Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Review: THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, National Theatre by Cindy Marcolina
- November 29, 2024 This is an Earnest for a new generation, Bridgertonian in its approach and just brat enough. Everybody is a little gay. Everybody is incredibly horny. Everybody has the smoothest comeback. Webster forgoes any sanctimony with sacrilegious extravagance. Gorgeously anachronistic costumes by Rae Smith splash on Smith’s own set design, shaking up the comedy of manners conventions in favour of a more original take.
