To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Mousetrap Theatre Projects will welcome 2,200 pupils (plus 220 teachers) to a schools-only matinee of The Sound of Music on Wednesday, 2nd April 2008.   At this performance, 12 - 16 year olds from 60 state secondary schools across London will have the chance to see this outstanding musical classic free of charge. For many pupils, it will be the first time they've experienced a major West End production.  Following the performance there will be an open discussion with members of the cast and creative team.

Starring in the role of 'Maria' at the all-schools matinee is Aoife Mulholland, who was a finalist in the hugely popular television programme, How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?  Aoife recently appeared as Roxie Hart in Chicago at the Cambridge Theatre.  This production also stars Simon Burke as 'Captain Von Trapp' and Margaret Preece as 'Mother Abbess'.

Through the support of Mousetrap Theatre Projects, more than 60,000 disadvantaged young people have attended the best of London's theatre over the past decade.  The charity aims to open doors to young people who might otherwise consider the Capital's rich cultural heritage closed to them.  Mousetrap Theatre Projects currently runs 14 innovative theatre access, education and audience development programmes. This special matinee has been funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families' The London Challenge, which is part of a government initiative to broaden young people's experience of living in London. The event also receives valued support from the producers of The Sound of Music, Really Useful Group and the staff of the London Palladium.
