The Doo Wop Project, composto da veterani di Broadway Charl Brown, Dwayne Cooper, John Dias, Russell Fischer e Dominic Nolfi, ha pubblicato il suo nuovo album completo, Echoes of the Street. Puoi ascoltarlo qui sotto.
Echoes of the Street segna il quinto album completo del gruppo e rende omaggio alle radici del doo wop, mentre reimmagina classici moderni per una nuova era. Prodotto da Sonny Paladino per Joy Machine Records, il quintetto ha registrato 12 tracce per Echoes of the Street, spaziano dai classici R&B, a successi pop e ai preferiti del teatro musicale.
Nell'album, i cantanti eseguono una serie di brani che vanno da "My Girl" dei The Temptations a "Get Lucky" [feat. Pharrell Williams e Nile Rodgers] dei Daft Punk. Altri brani includono "Somewhere" da West Side Story e "Shake It Off" di Taylor Swift. L'album presenta anche la loro prima canzone originale, "Ooh Whee (That Doo Wop Song)" scritta dal cantautore Elliot Lurie, frontman dei Looking Glass e autore del brano di successo "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)."
"Elliot ci ha detto che trascorre circa un'ora al giorno ad ascoltare nuova musica su Spotify e ci ha trovato lì," dice il direttore musicale e produttore Sonny Paladino. "Ha amato il nostro approccio fresco a un suono nostalgico e sapeva di avere la canzone perfetta per noi. Ce l'ha inviata, abbiamo fatto alcuni adattamenti per adattarla alle nostre voci, e con un po' di scambio siamo davvero felici di come è venuta fuori la collaborazione."
Per celebrare l'uscita, The Doo Wop Project ha recentemente tenuto uno speciale show di lancio dell'album alla Sony Hall di New York City il 7 ottobre, con una serata piena di classici e debutti tratti dal nuovo disco. Per il resto del 2025, intratterranno il pubblico in un tour con un nuovo spettacolo di 90 minuti—anch'esso intitolato Echoes of The Street—attraverso il Nord America questo mese, seguito da date in ottobre e oltre.
