THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND Extends at Florida Studio Theatre Through 6/29

By popular demand, Florida Studio Theatre has extended the run of the hit show The World Goes 'Round, featuring music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb. Filled with humor, romance, drama and non-stop melody, this revue is a thrilling celebration of life. The World Goes 'Round will be playing in the Gompertz Theatre through June 29. Subscriptions to FST's three-show summer season may be purchased for as little as $39 online at www.floridastudiotheatre.org, at the box office on the corner of Palm and Cocoanut or by calling the box office at (941) 366-9000. Single tickets to The World Goes 'Round range from $18 - $36.

Tampa Bay, Florida is the setting for all eight short plays, presented this past weekend, at Stageworks in Tampa. Scripts were submitted from all over central Florida; and were evaluated by a panel of judges. The participating artists received only an honorarium; donating their talents to the production. All of the plays were produced by StageWorks with minimal set pieces and props. This was an exceptional opportunity for area playwrights and 'showcase for newbies'.

Changes are afoot in the Young Dramatists' Project. For the first time in 13 years of production, Gorilla Theatre has solicited scripts by young authors from the entire state of Florida, not just the immediate tri-county area as in the past. With the help of the State Thespian Society, YDP received one-act scripts from as far away as Panama City and Fort Lauderdale. Three were selected from this group and three were selected from the tri-county entries. Over 40 entries were received this year in all.

The Underpants, adapted by the whimsical mind of Steve Martin, is a play that combines Martins wacky sense of humor with intelligent insight of human nature.

TampaWorks is an evening of short plays set in Tampa Bay area locations. This year's TampaWorks is totally a Stageworks production. Playwrights from all over central Florida submitted scripts. The submissions were evaluated by a panel of judges, who chose eight short plays for the production. The production is being sponsored in part by Tucker/Hall, The Tampa Chamber Of Commerce and The Tampa Downtown Partnership. Asolo Repertory Theatre today announced that Melinda Sullivan, a Top Ten finalist from Season 7 of Fox Television's popular reality competition show, So You Think You Can Dance, has joined the cast of Noah Racey's PULSE. Sullivan replaces Frances Bradley, who left the show on June 2 due to an injury. Sullivan's first appearance is the evening of June 4. She is scheduled to perform through the remainder of the run, which ends June 16.
