Photo Flash: St. Petersburg Opera Presents WEST SIDE STORY, Now Through 7/6
St. Petersburg Opera presents West Side Story. The production opened on June 27 and will continue to run through July 6 at the Palladium in St. Petersburg. Check below for photos from the production!
West Side Story is the Romeo and Juliet story as reinterpreted by Leonard Berstein and Stephen Sondheim. Set in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City in the mid-1950s, the musical throbs with passion. The rivalry between the Polish-American Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks, two teenage street gangs, underscores the love story. Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems combine to make this one of the greatest musicals ever written. Our production team plans to re-create the original Jerome Robbins dances sequences.
