THE BIRDCAGE, the movie that brought a political scandal into a Miami drag club to create a raucously hilarious comedy about an unorthodox family, is being brought to life at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg. Armand and Albert have built the perfect life for themselves tending to their gaudy Miami drag club. But their pastel tranquillity is shaken when Armand's son announces that he is getting married to the daughter of ultra-conservative Senator Keeley and that they are all getting together for dinner. Can Armand and Albert transform themselves into Mr and Mrs "Family Values" in time? It will take the performance of their lives, but they will do anything and everything to pull the chiffon over Keeley's eyes. Written by Elaine May, the stage adaptation, directed by the Cape Amateur Theatre Award-winning Barrie Howard and starring Mark Wilkes and David Waugh as Armand and Albert respectively, promises to live up to the reputation of the film. With onstage drag artists and all the favourite moments captured from the movie, this is an adaptation not to miss. This show is bound to have audiences laughing in the aisles.
