Commission Continua at POPArt Theatre

Thirty years after the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, this searing one-hander reflects on South Africa's ongoing struggle for justice, accountability and meaningful change. It centers on Bright Maluleke, a records clerk tasked with photocopying and archiving findings of the country's many commissions of inquiry, as the distance between paper and lived reality collapses. Drawing from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Marikana, Life Esidimeni and the Zondo Commission, the production transforms the language and machinery of bureaucracy into a haunting sonic and theatrical landscape. Created by Phala Ookeditse Phala and Tony Bonani Miyambo, and performed by Tony Miyambo, it won the NAF Ovation Gold at the 2026 National Arts Festival.
