Acclaimed guitarist/vocalist John Pizzarelli is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his debut album with a collection of classic songs from Broadway and Hollywood, Stage & Screen, with a new album via Palmetto Records. It features songs spanning nearly a century, given new life by Pizzarelli, bassist Mike Karn and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson.  Pizzarelli is celebrating with performances at Birdland this week.

Transport Group's revival of its acclaimed 2011 production of The Patsy, written by Barry Conners, performed by David Greenspan, and directed by Jack Cummings III, officially opened on Sunday, April 10 at 3pm.

With the history of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS as rich and complicated as the melodrama within itself, the reinvention presented by the Austin Opera this season is reminiscent of this Opera's rich history and beginnings. Premiering initially in 1912, Richard Strauss conceived a performance mixing the comedic style of Moliere' with the musically focused German-style melodrama opera. Appearing originally in two contrasting acts, the first begins as a play, and the second transitions into a full-fledged opera with comedic highlights. Historically, audiences were flustered in Munich and London by the contrasting art forms rolled into one night of entertainment - specifically, opera aficionados were loathe to sit through an entire act of a performance, before hearing the opera they were expecting in act two. After a variety of attempts with different versions and audience locations, Strauss' Libretto partner Hofmannsthal proposed a new first act be written to provide context on marrying the dramatization of operatic performance style with less prestigious but entertaining commedia dell'arte. Thus the second version of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS was presented in 1916 in Berlin and despite unsuccessful returns of a few productions, this opera/commedia concoction went on to be performed all over European Opera houses until it's first presentation in the United States in 1925. This rich history and reworking lend well to the present production at The Long Center presented by Austin Opera.

Imara Savage's (Director) staging of Noel Coward's HAY FEVER for Sydney Theatre Company proves the farcical comedy of manners, written in 1925, is truly timeless.

On December 28th, here in NYC at Symphony Space, I am very excited to be one of the guest stars (along with the great Melba Moore and some of the best singers and dancers in this town!) in a very special tribute/benefit to LUIGI (1925-2015), the man who revolutionized jazz dance in America. Years ago, when I was practically a kid, studying to move to New York City and break into the biz, I had a dance scholarship in the Luigi technique. And when I came to New York I studied with him. He changed my life, but then again, he seems to have changed everyone's life that was lucky enough to know him.

Following last year's successful run, Cumberland County Playhouse and the Scopes Trial Festival of Dayton, Tennessee, will once again co-produce Front Page News: Dayton and the World-Famous Scopes Trial, July 17-26, presented in the famous courtroom where Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan battled in 1925.

Broadway and film star Bobby Cannavale attended last night's preview performance of THE SILVER CORD, which is scheduled to open officially next Tuesday, June 11th at Off-Broadway's Theatre at St. Clement's. Bobby brought along a couple of his fellow actors from Broadway's THE BIG KNIFE, Lee Aaron Rosen and Mark Zeisler. This marked a reunion with SILVER CORD star Dale Carman, who served in the wardrobe department for THE BIG KNIFE through the end of its limited engagement last Sunday. Cast members from both shows posed for onstage photos after the performance.

Pulitzer Prize- winning playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes unveils The Happiest Song Plays Last-the latest and last play of her acclaimed 'Elliot Trilogy'-at Goodman Theatre, produced in association with Teatro Vista. The Happiest Song Plays Last appears now through May 12 in the Owen Theatre. Opening Night is Monday, April 22. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

For her all-new 10th anniversary production, Taylor has engaged community partners and used workshops to explore and deepen the spoken word, dance and music elements in Crowns. Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw presented GETTING MARRIED last night, June 20 at The Players. The production starred Reed Birney, Jordan Coughtry, Sue Cremin, David Furr, Cady Huffman, Simon Jones, Andrea Marcovicci, Emily Skinner, Steven Skybell, Robert Stanton, Lindsay Torrey, Lenny Wolpe and was narrated by Michael Musto of The Village Voice. The evening was guest hosted Jesse Green of New York Magazine. BroadwayWorld was on hand, as usual, and brings you photo coverage below!

TACT/The Actors Company Theatre (Scott Alan Evans,Cynthia Harris and Simon Jones, Co-Artistic Directors), the critically-acclaimed company 'dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely produced plays of literary merit,' opens its 17th Anniversary season with The Late Christopher Bean, a sly 1930's comedy by Pulitzer Prize-winner Sidney Howard based upon 'Prenez Garde a la Peinture,' by Rene Fauchois. Directed by TACT Company Member Jenn Thompson, performances began at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on Sunday, November 1st, 2009 at 3pm. Opening night was celebrated Wednesday, November 11th at 7:30pm. Performances will continue through Saturday, December 5th.

A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA on July 14th featured the sounds of Broadway music one rarely gets to hear anymore - Operetta - including music by Sigmund Romberg, Rudolph Friml and Victor Herbert. A NIGHT AT THE OPERETTA featured Alexander Gemignani, Lisa Howard, William Michals, Jennifer Hope Wills, Christine Andreas, Bill Daugherty, Brian Charles Rooney, Karen Murphy, John Easterlin, Jason Graae and Milla Ilieva. The show featured the dance talents of Eric Sean Fogel, J. Austin Eyer, Billy Harrigan Tighe, and Ben Franklin. The show is under the direction of Dan Foster with musical direction by Fred Barton

Inherit the Wind, starring two time Tony Award-winners Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy, opened April 12th at the Lyceum Theatre, and BroadwayWorld was there!
