The 60-minute performances of "Schoolhouse Rock LIVE! Jr." will take place on July 30, 31 and August 1 at 10:30 a.m. and on July 31 at 7:30 p.m. The shows are performed at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave, Drexel Hill, just minutes from the Main Line and Center City. Parking is free. Tickets are $7 - $10 and can be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office: 610.622.1189. Children are invited to come early for fun pre-show activities and stay after the show to meet cast members. "Schoolhouse Rock, LIVE! Jr." is ideal for ages four and up and free babysitting is available for those who are too young to enjoy the show quietly.

The Alden in McLean opens its 2013-2014 McLean Kids Performance Series with ArtsPower's production of 'The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle.' The original production will be presented at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 28. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $10 for McLean tax district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.

The Canton Symphony Orchestra has named violinist Justine Lamb-Budge its new concertmaster. Following extensive auditions, including four finalists, Lamb-Budge emerged as the clear leader to hold this open position. With the departure of Lauren Roth to the Tucson Symphony and prior to that, Nathan Olson to the Dallas Symphony, the need for a new concertmaster opened up. Auditions were announced at the beginning of August.

The centerpiece of Brooklyn Center's 2013-2014 family programming will be theTarget Storybook Series of performances based on classic and contemporary children's literature, with titles including The Little Engine That Could Earns Her Whistle; Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day; A Brown Bear, a Moon, and a Caterpillar: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle; andThe Wizard of Oz. The series aims to encourage the development of strong reading skills at home in children ages four to eight. Online resources such as literacy-based activity sheets and Parents' Guides will give parents the opportunity to engage their children prior to attending the performances, and then again after seeing each show.
