BroadwayWorld is saddened to learn of the passing of playwright and performer Andy Halliday. Halliday passed away at age 73, and was known for his work Off-Broadway, and with longtime friend Charles Busch.

The Next Step Theatre Festival, a writer-led cooperative, will present world-premiere readings, musicals, and concerts at the Producers Club Grand Theater in Midtown Manhattan for its second year.

An intermission-less, two-character, conversational-centric play that focuses on a pair of women's specific immigrant experiences—marked with loneliness, hopes, fears, and puzzlements big and small—Pulitzer Prize finalist Lloyd Suh's absorbing, touching, and occasionally (thankfully) very funny play explores the emotional tug-of-war between comfortable, familiar cultural traditions left behind and the need to accept, learn, and assimilate to the often confounding realities of their new home environment—a sometimes exciting, but sometimes heartbreaking concept that many first-generation immigrants know all too well. Cape Ann Symphony kicks off Season 74 at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September, 28, 2025 with The Virtuoso Orchestra Concert! featuring music from Gustav Holst and Modest Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel. The Cape Ann Symphony performs at Manchester-Essex Regional High School Auditorium on 36 Lincoln Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA.

Today, Tuesday, August 26th, is National Women’s Equality Day, commemorating the certification of the 19th Amendment granting women a constitutional right to suffrage. Even after female suffrage was granted in the United States in 1920, women still struggled to defy social norms and break out of traditional gender roles. However, one major example of women getting to make their mark as part of the global fight for freedom occurred during the Second World War. The hit Broadway musical Operation Mincemeat tells the story of some of the women who helped make the allied success possible. 

Laguna Playhouse has announced it has received a $4,000 grant from the FOA Foundation to support its year-round educational programming for children and teens in Orange County. The grant will help fund the theatre’s monthly workshops, summer camps, Youth Theatre Conservatory productions, and TheatreReach student matinee series.

Outcry Theatre's professional branch will present the regional premiere of acclaimed playwright Rajiv Joseph's Describe the Night, directed by Becca Johnson-Spinos and stage managed by Elizabeth Cantrell.

The new musical Goddess can currently be seen in its New York premiere production at the Public Theater on Lafayette Street. 'Unknown Soldier' is a beautifully performed show with a fascinating exploration of memory, love, and loss, but its main flaw is that it is a show seeking out answers to a mystery it not only fails to resolve, but further convolutes at every turn. While there’s truth in that, it’s also a little dissatisfying, as life itself often is.
