 Roy Clark, the legendary 'superpicker', GRAMMY, CMA and ACMaward winner, Country Music Hall of Fame and Grand Ole Opry member and co-host of the famed 'Hee Haw' television series, died today at the age of 85 due to complications from pneumonia at home in Tulsa, Okla.

Stephen Lawless will be directing the San Diego Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro this week. I met with him in the opera company's rehearsal room recently to discuss that, how he came to be a director, and his views of a director's responsibilities.

With all the members of the quartet contributing compositions, this one finds the four participants on equal footing on ten adventurous originals. From Poor's dreamy, noirish opener 'All That's Left of Me Is You' and his lonesome echo-laden waltz 'Alive' to Bergman's dynamic 'Must Concentrate,' Frisell's delicate 'Look, Listen' and his beguiling heartland melody 'Long Ago' and Vu's angular 'Round and Round' and his edgy and electrified 'March of the Owl and the Bat,' these four stellar musicians are truly on one accord and dealing with a rare level of nuance and depth of communication on Change in the Air.

Varda Studio, a newly formed avant-garde theater company, will perform its 'All Roads Lead to the Kurski Station,' a theatrical version of 'Moscow Circles' by Venedikt Yerofeyev that is adapted and directed by Emil Varda, from October 9 to 21 as part of the Sublet Series at HERE, 145 Avenue of the Americas.

Clarksville's Roxy Regional Theatre transports audiences back to Baltimore - the capital of big hair and the city of big dreams - in 1962 with their production of Hairspray, now onstage through September 29. This weekend (which features the company's annual fundraising gala on Saturday night) kicks off the second weekend of the show's multi-week run in Historic Downtown Clarksville.

Moviegoers are still buzzing about Marvel Studios' “Ant-Man and The Wasp,” the follow-up to 2015's “Ant-Man” and the 20th consecutive Marvel Cinematic Universe film to debut at No. 1 opening weekend and ranked in the box office top 10 for six consecutive weeks this summer. It's not easy having a conversation with Joel Roster. He's got a lot to tell you, and as the Artistic Director of a new theater company approaching its sophomore production, his manic (and yet genuinely friendly) energy runneth over when the name Aaron Sorkin comes up.

Polarity Ensemble Theatre has closed its doors for good. The company, incorporated in 2004, was known for developing and producing new work by local playwrights and for innovative productions of classics. Polarity mounted 22 full length productions, 10 of which were world premiere scripts developed in the company's DIONYSOS CUP FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS series. The company also published five books, some of which will remain in print.

BritBox, the streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV with the largest collection of British TV in the U.S., announced today during its TCA presentation an expanded commitment to delivering the best of British TV's past, present and future. Leading off the announcements was the reveal of the service's next new original series - Dark Heart, a TV adaptation of popular literary series featuring Detective Will Wagstaffe, played by Tom Riley (Da Vinci's Demons) and also starring Charlotte Riley (Peaky Blinders) and brought to you by the creators of Vera & Shetland. In addition, BritBox will add content from some of the biggest actors and creators from across the Atlantic including the exclusive premiere of the heartbreaking five time BAFTA Award winning drama mini-series Three Girls from director Philippa Lowthrope (The Crown) and writer Nicole Taylor (The C Word), Bancroft featuring Sarah Parish (Broadchurch) and and Shakespeare & Hathaway which was the biggest drama launch for a BBC daytime series in the last five years.

SOFT POWER, the first collective creation of Tony Award winners David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori, will world premiere at the Ahmanson under the auspices of Center Theatre Group, in association with East West Players and the Curran, opening May 16, 2018. We had the wonderful opportunity to chat with a frequent collaborator of both David Henry Hwang and Jeanine Tesori, actor/singer Francis Jue who portrays DHH in SOFT POWER.

Rogue Artists Ensemble's 2015 world premiere of WOOD BOY DOG FISH, their unique retelling of The Adventures of Pinocchio, will be receiving a spiffy remounting at the Garry Marshall Theatre beginning May 12, 2018. We had the most opportune opportunity to talk some serious talk with the co-writer of both WOOD BOY DOG FISH editions - Chelsea Sutton, as she shared her histories with the Falcon Theatre, Rogue Artists Ensemble and the late Garry Marshall.
