When the famous musical film “Mary Poppins” premiered in 1964, no one could have predicted the important role it would play in film history. Starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, the film combined live action animation with songs written and composed by the Sherman Brothers. Mary Poppins, played by Julie Andrews in her feature film debut, also produced one of film's most memorable songs of all time. There isn't anyone who has seen the Disney classic that can't walk away to whistle or sing those famous lyrics - “Just a Spoonful of Sugar Helps the Medicine Go Down…”

NewArts presents Newsies, the Tony Award-winning Broadway phenomenon, August 3 -12 at Masuk High School in Monroe, CT. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts.
