Shakespeare Theatre Company Announces Casting for THE COMEDY OF ERRORS

In honor of Artistic Director Michael Kahn's final season with the Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), the opening show of the 2018-2019 Season, William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, will feature beloved performers, many of whom have been with the Company since the very beginning. The cast for the farcical comedy will include STC Affiliated Artists Veanne Cox (Adriana), Nancy Robinette (Emilia), Tom Story (Angelo), Ted Van Griethuysen (Egeon) and Gregory Wooddell (Antipholus of Syracuse). Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul, fresh from his record-breaking production of Lerner & Loewe's Camelot, the production will play at the Lansburgh Theatre (450 7th Street NW) from September 25 through October 28, 2018.

Other familiar faces include Christian Conn, last seen at STC as Damis in The Metromaniacs, Carson Elrod (The Heir Apparent), Sarah Marshall (The Government Inspector), Eleasha Gamble (Two Gentlemen of Verona, a rock opera) and Matt Bauman (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum).

"I'm thrilled that Alan's production of The Comedy of Errors will open my final season with STC," said Michael Kahn. "It's a terrific cast and Alan is a master-not only at comedy, but also at creating pieces that allow talented artists to shine. I know they'll bring the world of Ephesus to life in all its anarchic glory."

The Comedy of Errors is one of Shakespeare's earliest plays, following the lives of two sets of twins, each with the same name. Through chronic cases of mistaken identity, audiences can leave logic behind and delight in the confusion, where servants misplace their masters, wives overlook their husbands, and sons forget their fathers. The blunders double, triple and cube until chaos reigns-and everyone is pretty sure that everyone else is completely insane.

"While this play is all the things you might think of first-zany gags, physical comedy, mistaken identities and goofy hijinks-it also contains so many of the ideas that Shakespeare brings to full fruition later in his career" said Alan Paul. "I hope with this production, you will see not only The Comedy of Errors, but the beginnings of a great tradition Shakespeare later created. And, of course, that this terrific cast leaves you crying with laughter." The production will feature original songs by Composer and Lyricist Michael Dansicker.
