You would never guess it, but Newsies was originally a flop when it came out as a Disney movie in 1992. It gained credibility and a cult following after being released to home video. The stage musical came several years later and opened on Broadway in 2012, where it was nominated for eight Tony Awards. Newsies ended up winning two, Best Choreography and Best Original Score. You will understand why when you hear the exhilarating numbers by Alan Menken, who also created the music for Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Sister Act.

NBC Sports Group – in partnership with The R&A – has announced its comprehensive coverage plans for The 147TH Open, taking place July 19-22 at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland. Across NBC Sports, 182 hours of programming will showcase the third men's major championship of the year, including nearly 50 live hours of the network's Emmy-nominated tournament coverage – annually the most live hours of coverage from any golf event – spanning from Thursday's opening tee shot to Sunday's final putt. NBC Sports' storytelling will be led by the deepest and most-experienced roster of analysts, hosts, reporters and personalities in golf, who will share their expertise surrounding golf's original major championship.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues its 56th season with its second Main Stage production, Titus Andronicus. Resident Director Brian B. Crowe will helm this rarely produced Shakespearean tragedy. STNJ veteran Bruce Cromer will play the title role; Tony Award nominee Robert Cuccioli and returning company members Vanessa Morosco and Benjamin Eakeley will play leading roles amongst a cast of 20 actors that also includes young artists from the Theatre's renowned Summer Professional Training Program.

Toshiki Okada's TIME'S JOURNEY THROUGH A ROOM Enters Final Weeks

The Play Company (PlayCo), led by Founding Producer Kate Loewald and Managing Director Robert G. Bradshaw, today announces the complete cast for Toshiki Okada's Time's Journey Through a Room, marking PlayCo's third collaboration with Okada, translator Aya Ogawa, and director Dan Rothenberg, May 10 - June 10, 2018. This haunting play, set in post-Fukushima Japan, will star three Japanese born performers, all of whom are now based in New York: Yuki Kawahisa (Honoka), Maho Honda (Arisa) and Kensaku Shinohara (Kazuki). The play is both an intimate examination of how we move forward from life-altering events, and a study of how we experience time, asking whether we can ever be alive to the present moment.

The League of Chicago Theatres held the 2018 Annual Gala, an elegant event that brings together friends of Chicago theatre to raise funds for programs to support Chicagoland's more than 250-member theatre companies. The event, which had 245 attendees and raised $125,000, was held on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago, 120 E. Delaware Place. 

Sutton Foster to Perform At Deer Valley Music Festival; Kristen Chenoweth Postponed

The Utah Symphony today announced Tony Award-winning singer Sutton Foster will take the stage at the Deer Valley Music Festival on Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 PM in a performance with the Utah Symphony led by Associate Conductor Conner Gray Covington. Kristin Chenoweth, who was originally scheduled to perform on this date, has postponed her performance to a yet-to-be-announced date in 2019. Tickets to the performance with Sutton Foster start at $54 and are on sale now. Tickets and lodging information are available by calling (801) 533-6683 or online at deervalleymusicfestival.org.
