Pittsburgh CLO Announces 2018-2019 Kara Cabaret Series

Pittsburgh CLO announces the receipt of a major gift from Dolores Kara in honor of her late husband Michael. In recognition of their generous support of Pittsburgh CLO and the CLO Cabaret, the series has been named the Pittsburgh CLO Kara Cabaret Series. Dolores and Michael were married in 1999 and have since been steadfast advocates for several non-profit organizations in Pittsburgh and in Boca Raton, Florida. Dolores and Michael have made a significant impact on many individuals and organizations through their work in the community. Among their many activities and interests, the Karas share a long-time love of live musical theater.

The 2018-2019 Pittsburgh CLO Kara Cabaret Series will feature two world premieres and the Off-Broadway sensation SPAMILTON: An American Parody. Kicking off the 2018-2019 season is the world premiere of GAME ON. Created by Pittsburgh CLO alums Marcus Stevens and David Dabbon, this hilarious gameshow extravaganza is sure to keep audiences laughing and guessing at the same time. Next up is Adam Overett's musical comedy love letter to those of us who can't always do it all, THE DOUBLE-THREAT TRIO. The Series closes out with the parody to end all parodies, SPAMILTON: An American Parody.

"Through the successful Next Generation Capital Campaign, we have been able to create an unprecedented incubator of new talent with our inaugural SPARK festival, last spring here in Pittsburgh. Through this effort and the support of donors such as Dolores and Michael Kara, we have been able to secure the world premieres of two remarkable musicals, GAME ON and THE DOUBLE-THREAT TRIO, created specifically for the CLO Cabaret. Our audiences will also be the very first to enjoy the critically-acclaimed production of Gerard Alessandrini's hit musical, SPAMILTON: An American Parody - what The New York Times calls 'SMART, SILLY AND CONVULSIVELY FUNNY!'" said Pittsburgh CLO Executive Producer, Van Kaplan.

To make it on Broadway, you gotta sing, dance AND act - in other words, you must be a triple-threat. In a city of triple-threats, Nina, Kenny, and Jamison are unemployable. Nina sings, but can't act to save her life. Kenny dances, but can't sing a note. And Jamison, a classically trained actor, can barely point his toes. But who needs reality when you've got a dream? A WORLD PREMIERE musical comedy about finding your friends and playing to your strengths.

SPAMILTON: An American Parody
May 16 - August 25, 2019
Gerard Alessandrini (Created, Written and Directed by Gerard Alessandrini)

Don't miss this "convulsively funny" (NY Times ) parody from the comic mastermind behind the long-running hit Forbidden Broadway. After tearing it up in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, SPAMILTON: An American Parody fulfills its manifest destiny by conquering Pittsburgh for a limited time only. The Huffington Post raves "you don't have to see Hamilton to have side-splitting fun at Spamilton. "
