Renowned Sculptor John Waddell's pieces hold a profound presence. His internationally acclaimed bronze nudes have had a dramatic impact on communities, opening their hearts and minds. His body of work reflects a life spent masterfully depicting the essence of humanity, with grace. Goldenstein Gallery in Sedona, AZ will be celebrating John Waddell's 98th birthday on Friday on February 1st, from 5-7pm during the opening reception for their February exhibition Body Language.

Trinity Rep will continue its 2018-19 Season with the electrifying tale of Macbeth a Shakespearean thriller that bursts at breakneck speed with more suspense, murder, and madness than a blockbuster film. Directed by Curt Columbus, who was most recently at the helm of last spring's Ragtime, this contemporary telling of the famously-cursed play will include a live DJ and elements of magic.

'Bring it On' meets 'Dreamgirls' in the girl-group musical, 'Betty and the Belrays' by William Electric Black aka Ian Ellis James, which will be presented by Theater for the New City January 31 to February 17. The piece tells the story of three white female singers from Detroit who struggle to change a racially divided society by singing for a black record label. Book and lyrics are by William Electric Black. Music is by Black, Valerie Ghent (arranger/keyboards for Ashford & Simpson) and Gary Schreiner. Choreography is by Jeremy Lardieri. Director is Mr. Black.

The East Village Playhouse, home of the CityKids Foundation, honors Black History Month with a production of "The Artivist, The Bayard Rustin Story," a solo show that tells the story of the life of civil rights activist Bayard Rustin through his speeches, songs, monologues, documentary footage, and letters. The play opens January 24th and runs through February 17th, Today, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, Sunday at 3pm.

The Snowy Day and Other Stories by Ezra Jack Keats announces two performances on MLK Day, January 21st at St. Luke's Theatre. Adapted for the stage by Jerome Hairston with music by Victor Zupanc, the show is inspired by four of Keats' most beloved stories, including the 1963 Caldecott Award-winning picture book, The Snowy Day.

Forty years after the death of Elvis Presley, two-time Sundance Grand Jury winner Eugene Jarecki takes the King's 1963 Rolls-Royce on a musical road trip across America. From Tupelo to Memphis to New York, Las Vegas, and countless points between, the journey explores the rise and fall of Elvis as a metaphor for the country he left behind. What emerges is a visionary portrait of the state of the American dream and a penetrating look at how the hell we got here. The King premieres on Independent Lens Monday, January 28, 2019, 9:00-10:30PM ET (check local listings) on PBS.

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre, presents Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the Tony Award-winning play that first brought Stoppard to the attention of an international audience - a position he has held in the half century since its premiere in 1967. ANW Producing Artistic Director Geoff Elliott directs. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead performs from October 7 to November 18 (Press Opening October 13).

The famous Billy Wilder quote serves as the backbone of a poignant, ambitious and disturbingly funny project from acclaimed local playwright Christian Levatino and his gangbusters theatre company. Now in their 15th season, gangbusters is partnering with the newly reorganized Complex Hollywood to launch a repertory run of three dark comedy plays from Levatino's 'Black Bag Pentalogy,' a series of works that holds a magnifying glass to five very distinct moments in American history between 1954 and 1972.  

The Maggie Allesee Department of Theatre and Dance, a program within the College of Fine, Performing and Communication Arts at Wayne State University, is thrilled to kick off our year-long 90 Years of Dance at Wayne celebration with the annual December Dance Concert, December 7 and 8 at Detroit's Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts.  This year's show promises diverse and moving works showcasing highlights of dance through the decades. Dance students have the pleasure of working with a variety of talented artists, including invited guests, esteemed faculty, and talented student choreographers.

Director Linda Fortunato has cast Neil Friedman as Kris Kringle, Stella Rose Hoyt as Susan, Courtney Jones as Doris and Christopher Kale Jones as Fred for Theatre at the Center's Miracle On 34th Street: The Musical. Previews began November 15 with Opening Night on November 18 and a continued run through December 23. This production is sponsored in part by American Community Bank.

In the Auditorium Theatre's 129th year of existence, we honored the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the 13th annual Too Hot to Handel: The Jazz-Gospel Messiah; asked "What's This?" on Halloween with a special screening and the Midwest premiere of Disney in Concert's The Nightmare Before Christmas; and sang along to timeless classics like "December 1963 (Oh, What a Night)" and "Grease" with Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. We reveled alongside the dancers from Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; celebrated Ballet Nacional de Cuba's return to Chicago following a 15-year absence; highlighted top local dance companies, including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Giordano Dance Chicago; and got transported to Mexico with the colorful music and dance of Ballet Folklorico de Mexico de Amalia Hernandez. We also hosted the 14th  year of our Hearts to Art summer camp, a performing arts camp for young people who have experienced the death of a parent; welcomed over 5,000 students to our Student Matinees; and brought thousands of people from across the city to the theatre through our ADMIT ONE program.

On Her Shoulders is pleased to present staged readings of three plays by Irish dramatist Teresa Deevy, directed by Kristin Heckler on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Doors open at 6:45pm for a 7:00pm start with The Play in Context by Melody Brooks, who situates the scripts in their historical time and place, followed by the readings and a post-performance Q&A with refreshments.
