What did our critic think of TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD at Hippodrome Theatre? Chances are, if you're a product of the American education system, you read Harper Lee's 1960 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, in high school or college. And if you didn't, you've likely seen the 1962 film of the same name featuring Gregory Peck in perhaps his most famed role, lawyer and bastion of decency, Atticus Finch. The plot involving Atticus and his children, Scout and Jem, is in some ways, quite 'straightforward.' Atticus is asked to represent Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. It's deep South, Alabama, 1934. It's not going to end well. However, it's what happens along the way, and afterwards, that makes this novel so worth reading, and this play, so worth watching.

The Ukrainian Contemporary Music Festival (UCMF) has announced its return to the Kaufman Music Center in New York City for three concerts, March 17 to 19, 2023, honoring the 'father' of Ukrainian contemporary music, Borys Liatoshynsky (3 January 1895 - 15 April 1968).

HAIRSPRAY THE MUSICAL is given a Sydney Revival over two decades after Jack O’Brien (Original Director) and Jerry Mitchell’s (Original Choreographer) original multi Tony Award, Drama Desk Award and Laurence Olivier Award Winning production opened on Broadway. 

Good Theater continues its 20th anniversary season with NUREYEV'S EYES, running February 22nd through March 12th. Directed by James Noel Hoban, the production will star Joseph Bearor as Jamie Wyeth and Michael Grew as Rudolf Nureyev, and feature a set by James Noel Hoban and Craig Robinson, props by Annon Bill, costume design by Michelle Handley, lighting design by Iain Odlin, and stage management by Michael Lynch.

Great Lakes Theater (GLT) has released production photos for its production of Jane Austen’s classic, Sense and Sensibility, performing in the company’s intimate and audience-friendly home at the Hanna Theatre, Playhouse Square through March 5, 2023. GLT’s Associate Artistic Director, Sara Bruner, and Artistic Associate, Jaclyn Miller, will co-direct this production. Maine State Music Theatre was saddened to receive news of the passing of one of its legendary stars – an actor whose career was inextricably interwoven with the history of Maine’s premier musical theatre. “Bernie” Wurger was a mainstay of MSMT summers from 1962 until 2000, playing 195 leading and supporting roles and winning an indelible place in the hearts of his public. His long and versatile career spanned opera, musical theatre, directing, and film not only in Maine but in New York and leading regional theatres across the country.

Legendary Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, his 25-year-old son Matteo and his 10-year-old daughter Virginia have teamed up with one of the most innovative vocal groups of all time, Pentatonix, to record an inspiring new version of the festive classic “Do You Hear What I Hear” – released on Decca / Capitol Records. Award-winner Angel Blue started off the proceedings at the Richard Tucker Gala (after Barry Tucker’s usual introduction/ode to his father, the great tenor) with a bang: Puccini’s justly famous aria “Vissi d’arte” from TOSCA. For those of us who’ve only heard her as Bess in Gershwin’s PORGY & BESS at the Met, it was a revelation to hear her lush, velvety voice raise the rafters on the hall, with no warm up.
