Approximately 330 miles…That's how far Havana, Cuba is from Miami, Florida. Within that space lies a distance of less than an hour. However, to some people it might as well be a lifetime away. I remember all my childhood being told about what Cuba used to be by my grandparents. As a third generation Cuban American living in Miami, Florida, as soon as we start to crawl, you are hearing about the good ole days before Fidel Castro stole Cuba from the people - people who still long for home. So I was thrilled to research into AMPARO. This one of a kind immersive theater experience is based on the compelling, true story of an immigrant family's triumph through exile. From present-day Miami to 1957-Cuba, where you will follow cast members through the Cuban Revolution, bearing witness to the story of the Arechabala family--founders of THE REAL HAVANA CLUB rum.

The Marsh San Francisco announces the return of Not a Genuine Black Man, the longest running solo show in San Francisco theater history by award-winning actor, playwright, and talk show host Brian Copeland. This funny, honest, and harrowing piece recounts the struggles Copeland faced growing up in what was declared one of the most racist suburbs in America.

The Ember Ensemble will perform with NYC Encore Creativity for Older Adults Chorale on March 2nd and 3rd  in a concert titled Carpe Diem!, translated literally as “pluck the day (as it is ripe!)”.

Pasadena Playhouse - State Theatre of California is announcing the return of the Playhouse Block Party, in partnership with the Playhouse District Association, after last year's blockbuster inaugural event.  This all-day event, free to the public, is from 12-noon to 10:00pm on Saturday, June 8 on El Molino Ave. at Colorado Blvd.  There will be more than twenty performances on two different stages - a Main Stage and a Family Stage -- during the course of the day, in addition to activity booths hosted by some of Pasadena's most celebrated arts organizations, theatre tours, a silent disco, and more.

BroadwayWorld was sad to announce the passing of theatre icon Carol Channing early Tuesday morning. She was most notably known for creating the legendary role of Dolly Levi in Hello, Dolly, a role she went on to play in more than 5,000 performances.

The Marsh San Francisco announces a one-night-only Marsh benefit performance of Not a Genuine Black Man, the longest running solo show in San Francisco theater history by award-winning actor, playwright, and talk show host Brian Copeland. This funny, honest, and harrowing piece recounts the struggles Copeland faced growing up in what was declared one of the most racist suburbs in America. "In the current political climate, empathy seems to be a lost commodity. By showing people the world through the eyes of a bullied and lonely little African-American boy, I hope they will develop compassion for the demonized 'other,'" says Copeland. The San Francisco Chronicle described the show as "relentlessly introspective and disarmingly honest, Copeland takes apart the false notion that black masculinity is some monolithic concept, in a way that has continued, unfortunately, to be relevant long after the show's 2004 premiere." Not a Genuine Black Man will play as a Marsh benefit performance for one-night-only at 8:00pm, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia St., San Francisco. Grammy Award-winner and two-time Emmy nominee Steve Tyrell returns to Cafe Carlyle, April 16-27. Steve Tyrell is currently celebrating his 14th anniversary performing in Cafe Carlyle's revered holiday slot, having taken over for Bobby Short in 2005 after the legend's passing. The New York Times has declared, "Mr. Tyrell is a terrific storyteller… his sizable voice filters Louis Armstrong through Ray Charles and Dr. John." Ten of his eleven albums have achieved Top 5 status on Billboard's Traditional Pop Charts, with his most recent, A Song For You, reaching #1 earlier this year. In October, Steve Tyrell released a 21-song extended edition of his 2008 chart-topper Back to Bacharach. The album, an homage to Tyrell's friend and mentor, Burt Bacharach, features seven additional Bacharach classics.
