Netflix announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights to Sandi Tan's creative odyssey Shirkers, which had its world premiere at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, where Tan won the Directing Award in World Cinema Documentary. The film screened to great acclaim and will next be shown at the True/False Film Festival in Columbia, Missouri on Friday, March 2. Adding to its robust slate of documentary shorts, Netflix also acquired Zion, a ten-minute film directed by Floyd Russ about a young wrestler who was born without legs and finds acceptance and community within the world of wrestling.

PlayFest Santa Barbara Festival Announces 2018 Events

PlayFest Santa Barbara, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Public Library, and with the support of a Community Arts Grant from the City of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture, presents the Sixth Annual Festival of New Plays. The staged reading of Steve Karp's Honoree Play, REUNION, will take place in the Santa Barbara Central Library on March 10 at 7p.m. REUNION was selected as the 2018 Honoree play following an international competition. E. Bonnie Lewis and Ken Gilbert of DramaDogs will perform the roles of He and She. Maggie Mixsell of Speaking of Stories, will narrate. Anna Jensen, former Ensemble Theatre dramaturge and current co-host of Theatrixsb podcast, will moderate a post reading talkback between the audience and the playwright. The reading is free.

Visceral Dance Chicago Bring SPRINGFIVE to Harris Theater

Visceral Dance Chicago will continue its season with a presentation of  SPRINGFIVE on April 7, 2018 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park, the second mainstage Chicago performance of the company's fifth year. It will include Artistic Director, Nick Pupillo's two original works; Impetere (2013), which introduced the company's strong technique and athleticism and Senza Di Te (2013), a romantic pas des deux revived this time with live music by cellist, Desire Miller.  The first half of the program will end with a signature piece, Changes (2014), Monica Cervantes named by Dance Magazine as one of "25 to Watch" for 2013.  Changes is an exploration of fast paced relationships in our modern day. It imbeds snapshots and vignettes from daily life within driving and abstract ensemble movement.

Japanese And American Dancers Explore Female Aging

Enmei (Long Life) is more than just a dance performance coming to Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, March 23, at 8 p.m., in the Virginia G. Piper Theater. It's a cross-cultural artistic project about age, time and culture via the older moving body.
