Weinberger Award for Emerging Librettists, a juried cash and production grant to be given annually to support the early work and career of a deserving musical theatre librettist. The Award commemorates the life and work of playwright/librettist Eric H. Weinberger (1950-2017), who was a Drama Desk Award nominee for Best Book of a Musical (Wanda's World, and the playwright/librettist of Class Mothers '68, that earned Pricilla Lopez a Drama Desk Award nomination.

From Friday, October 11 through Thursday, October 17, BAM presents New Orleans-based artist Garrett Bradley's revelatory modern silent film America (2019), a poetic, visually sumptuous work that challenges the idea of Black cinema as a “wave,” or “movement in time,” proposing instead a continuous thread of achievement. 'From the moment I saw this blazingly original, poignantly dreamlike short at this year's Sundance Film Festival,' says series programmer Ashley Clark, 'it felt imperative to offer our audiences the chance to luxuriate in this ambitious short-form work on the big screen.' Each program throughout the series features the 30-minute short paired with films, talks, and special guest appearances.

The Town Hall today announced the inaugural Lena Horne Prize for Artists Creating Social Impact, the first major entertainment award to be named after a woman of color, honoring excellence at the intersection of arts and activism. The award, named after the celebrated actress, singer and activist Lena Horne, will recognize today's leading artists that are using their platform to promote awareness and create social change, and will be presented to the soon-to-be-announced recipient at an event at The Town Hall, a national historic landmark, in February 2020.

Detroit's political, introspective Hip-Hop artist, Chris Orrick drops his latest single 'Funny Things' today on Hip Hop DX. The track is an ode to the feeling of doubt one experiences while watching our country go into a seemingly downward spiral with little to no hope of anyone in power doing anything about it. Orrick's narrative takes on a raw, honest, therapeutic approach to the ways in which he confronts the everyday responsibility required to be a young adult in the year 2019. Lukas McFarlane is a very diversely talented dancer and choreographer. On St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2019 at The Montalban Theatre, MacFarlane and Company presented a dazzling display of artistry and expression, as part of MOVES, a three-day Dance Festival held at the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood. https://www.themontalban.com   The MOVES performances included FUZE, Presented by Nick Young and Rhythmatic, March 15, which unfortunately I did not get to see. I am hoping to catch them sometime soon, as tap is my first love in dance; Entity Contemporary Dance, on March 16, who's Review I have already posted on Broadway World; and the piece de resistance, Lukas McFarlane's Epic Astoria.

Blue Collar, Alternative Hip-Hop artist Chris Orrick has just shared his brooding new video “Out To Sea,' today with Passion Of The Weiss along with the announcement of his upcoming album, also titled Out To Sea, out May 24th via Mello Music Group. The video takes the audience on an introspective journey with the artist while he is literally “out to sea,” aimlessly wandering a beach and drifting on a boat that seems to be going nowhere. Of the single, Chris describes the meaning behind it as “being mentally 'out to sea', disconnected from society/the internet.”
