The Second Street Players are proud to announce the 2019 Season. 2019 will showcase some classic stories along with  some new shows that have not been preformed in the area yet. There will be 5 Main Stage Shows and 3 Children's Theater shows. With this announcement the Second Street Players are also putting out a call to Directors. Anyone that is interested in directing one of the shows should submit a letter of intent by August 31, 2018.

 Hitchcock meets hilarious in a fast-paced comedy mystery thriller for anyone who loves the magic of theater. International City Theatre presents The 39 Steps, adapted byPatrick Barlow from the novel by John Buchan and based on the Alfred Hitchcock movie. Jamie Torcellini directs for a June 22 opening at International City Theatre in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, with two low-priced previews set for June 20 and June 21.

Beginning Tuesday, May 1 at 10 a.m., tickets to individual performances within Richard Wagner's four-opera cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung), will be available for purchase. Previously offered only as complete cycle packages, tickets for Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung will go on sale for the first time.

The Drama League (Gabriel Stelian-Shanks, Executive Artistic Director) today announced the 2018 Drama League Awards Nominees for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Revival of a Play, Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Revival of a Musical, and the much-coveted Distinguished Performance Award. When you think the classic era of Broadway Musicals, many lean toward Rodgers and Hammerstein or Lerner and Loewe but for my money I always go right to Cole Porter. Maybe not as prolific when it comes to hit shows as the others but you can't dismiss the undeniable genius of "Anything Goes" and of course "Kiss Me, Kate" (my personal favorite), currently playing at the 5th Avenue Theatre. And the folks at the 5th have not only done right by this classic tuner by packing it to the brim with the best singers, dancers and comedians they could find but the production is a love letter to the predecessors of the production, most notably the visual style which is so reminiscent of the 1953 film version, making this far more than a killer show, but an homage.

Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) Artistic Director Bill Rauch announced the Festival's 2019 playbill today. The season, which will be Rauch's last at the artistic helm, celebrates Shakespeare, classics and new plays, including two American Revolutions commissions and a pilot Community Visit Project that will take a bilingual Play on! translation into community venues throughout the region.

Rehearsals are in full swing for The 5th Avenue Theatre's production of Kiss Me, Kate, which begins performances next Friday, April 6.

The River Street Theatre (RST) announced that they will be showing two of Alfred Hitchcock's most acclaimed mystery thriller films from the early British period of his career. The 39 Steps will be shown on Friday, March 30 and The Lady Vanishes will be shown on Saturday, March 31, both at 7pm. 

TCT Off Broadway will present a youth production of Broadway Beat on April 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and Aril 14 at 2 p.m. at 213 East Franklin Street.   The show includes musical highlights from over a century of song and dance including Hairspray, The Music Man, The King and I, Wicked, Rent and Grease, and a medley of favorites from George M. Cohan! Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and younger and may be reserved by calling the TCT office at 844-1935.

The Drama League (Executive Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks) will honor three powerhouses of the American theater community at the 84th Annual Drama League Awards, set for Friday afternoon, May 18, 2018 at the Marriott Marquis Times Square.

Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College, has announced its 2018-2019 season will launch with the musical "Sweeney Todd," followed by a world premiere production by Callie Kimball, and contemporary theatre classics "Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992" and "The 39 Steps."

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is offering discounted $10 rush tickets for eight performances to benefit ACCESS and the Ashland Emergency Food Bank. In addition to seeing some wonderful performance, the great things about wring reviews are that you to get to think, learn, and write. So it was with last Thursday's Firstworks production of AMERICAN RHAPSODY: THE GERSHWIN SONGBOOK with Michael Andrew, Michelle Amato and seventeen piece Gershwin Big Band before a nearly full-house at Veterans Auditorium in Providence. The music was fabulous and I have been thinking about it and the Gershwins ever since.

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and The Museum of Modern Art announce the complete lineup for the 47th annual New Directors/New Films (ND/NF), March 28-April 8. Throughout its rich, nearly half-century history, the festival celebrates filmmakers who represent the present and anticipate the future of cinema, daring artists whose work pushes the envelope in unexpected ways. This year's festival will introduce 25 features and 10 short films to New York audiences.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF) announced today that Artistic Director Bill Rauch will leave OSF in August 2019 to assume artistic leadership of The Ronald O. Perelman Center for Performing Arts at the World Trade Center in New York City.
