In 2019, Flushing Town Hall offers a breadth of outstanding global music, family programs, exhibitions, jazz and workshops. From January through June, Flushing Town Hall will present 72 programs, including 18 world music shows, 10 jazz performances, eight family programs, seven classical music concerts, three exhibitions, and more.  The spring season is a continuation of 40th anniversary celebrations of the Flushing Council on Culture and the Arts (FCCA), the steward of Flushing Town Hall.

On Her Shoulders is pleased to present staged readings with music of two plays by the earliest known female dramatists, directed by Lynn Marie Macy on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Celebrate the birth and life of Dr. King with Chicago Sinfonietta as it presents its signature annual MLK Tribute Concert, featuring the conducting talents of Chicago Sinfonietta Assistant Conductor Kedrick Armstrong and Charleston Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor Kellen Gray, both graduates of the Chicago Sinfonietta's industry-leading Project Inclusion professional development program. Chicago Sinfonietta will perform Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 3 p.m. at Wentz Concert Hall at North Central College, 171 E. Chicago Ave., Naperville, and on Monday, January 21, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. at Symphony Center, 220 S. Michigan Ave in Chicago.

Four new works for the stage, with a global cohort of theatremakers, have gathered for development at the two-week Sundance Institute Theatre Lab at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA), convening December 2-16, 2018, including a public performance on December 7. The Labs process, rigorous and generative, is founded on concentrated and abundant time and resources; projects are cast individually and rehearsed daily.

Cerise Jacobs Presents Hong Kong Premiere Of MADAME WHITE SNAKE In Spring 2019

Creator and librettist Cerise Jacobs premiered her 'most technologically ambitious production to date' (Boston Globe) at Boston's Emerson Cutler Majestic Theater in September: the video game opera, PermaDeath, co-written by Jacobs and her son, Pirate Epstein, founder of the video game company SqueePlay and a former New England Halo champion. The score was composed by Rome and Berlin Prize-winning composer Dan Visconti, who also composed Opera Philadelphia's recent Andy Warhol-themed ANDY: A Popera. Now Jacobs's first opera, Madame White Snake, which premiered in Boston in 2010 and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for music the following year for the score by composer Zhou Long, will be given its Hong Kong premiere in two performances at the 47th Hong Kong Arts Festival in March of next year.

Directed by Christopher Annino, 'Silent Times' is a Roaring-Twenties escapade set in a small New England town. The story centers on Oliver Henry III (played by Geoff Blanchette), a small-time crook turned vaudeville theater owner. From humble beginnings in England, he immigrates to America in search of happiness and fast cash. He becomes acquainted with people from all walks of life, from burlesque performers, mimes, hobos to classy flapper girls. As his fortunes rise his life spins out of control. Much of the storyline is a reflection on current social issues that burden our society today.

The Cleveland Orchestra's Presents ARIADNE AUF NAXOS

On January 13, 17 and 19 Franz Welser-Most and The Cleveland Orchestra continue an ongoing commitment to present opera at Severance Hall with a made-for-Cleveland production of Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxos which is being performed for the first time in the Orchestra's history. In his years as music director, Welser-Most has led The Cleveland Orchestra in performances of many orchestral works by Richard Strauss, as well as presentations of four other Strauss operas: Elektra (2004), Der Rosenkavalier (2007), Salome (2012), and Daphne (2015).

Opera Star Marisol Montalvo Debuts New Show MAD SCENE

Producer Mark Cortale is kicking-off the seventh season of his celebrated Broadway @ NOCCA concert series on November 1 with internationally renowned opera star Marisol Montalvo, bringing her acclaimed new show Mad Scene for its New Orleans debut. The show was written and directed by Jeffery Roberson (aka Varla Jean Merman) and features William Hobbs at the piano. The series will continue with two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole on December 15, Tony Award winner Jessie Mueller on January 31, and Tony nominee & star of TV's Supergirl and Smash, Jeremy Jordan on March 29 - with each joined by Sirius XM radio star Seth Rudetsky as music director and host.
