Aye, Matees! It is so exciting to see the world premiere of a show. I had this opportunity with the opening of Treasure Island, A Musical Adventure at Theatre Three in Port Jefferson, Long Island. This original two-act musical, based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, has a book by Sherman Yellen, Music by Gary William Friedman, and lyrics by Will Holt -- all Tony nominees. Now playing through October 27th, this beautiful up-and-coming production, directed by Jeffrey Sanzel, is in fantastic shape thus far.

Hailed for its "compelling and innovative programming (WQXR Radio)," dell'Arte Opera Ensemble today announced its 17th annual summer festival: Voices from the Tower exclusively featuring works composed by women.  The season will include the commissioned world premiere of Princess Maleine, with a libretto (based on the play by Maurice Maeterlinck) by Bea Goodman and music by Whitney George, and the first opera ever composed by a woman, La liberazione di Ruggiero by Francesca Caccini (1625), with a libretto by Ferdinando Saracinelli.  A scenes program will feature Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot and other operatic scenes by Thea Musgrave, Victoria Bond and others, and "Les Boulangers" will be a recital of songs featuring the works of Lili and Nadia Boulanger, their contemporaries and students.

Legendary Platinum rockers STYX and comedy legend Larry the Cable Guy are joining forces for the first time ever to rock and GIT-R-DONE. They're coming together for seven unforgettable nights of hits and jokes billed as “Laugh. Rock. Seriously.” starting March 21 in Fargo, ND at the Scheels Arena. Musical Theatre West (MTW) returns to the Carpenter Performing Arts Center with a line-up of West Coast regional premieres, Tony Award -winning classics, and a new family favorite, opening with the West Coast regional theater premiere of Something Rotten! Writer/performer Moti Buchboot will bring his world premiere solo show Five Pieces of Paper: Stories My Hungarian Grandmother Refused to Tell Me and Other Family Tales to the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival in June. There will be four performances only at the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Davidson/Valentini Theatre Monday 6/10 at 8:30pm; Tuesday 6/18 at 6:30pm; Tuesday 6/25 at 8:30pm; and Thursday 6/27 at 6:30pm. Running time will be 70 minutes.

Honoring Holocaust Remembrance Day, writer/performer Moti Buchboot brings his solo show Five Pieces of Paper: Stories My Hungarian Grandmother Refused to Tell Me and Other Family Tales to the Matrix Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 7, at 8pm. The show received its world premiere (directed by Buchboot and Martha Gehman) in the 2019 Hollywood Fringe Festival.  Five Pieces of Paper is set to return for five performances in the 2020 HFF this coming June.

Mark Bramble, the American theatre director, author and producer died on February 20, 2019 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore following complications related to cardiovascular hypertension.  He was 68 years old.  His passing was reported by his long-time business manager and friend, Richard Koenigsberg.

Styx bring their only UK show in 2019 to the prestigious London Palladium on the 4th June for 'An Evening Of Styx.' They will perform music to celebrate their hugely successful 47-year career, including tracks from their most recent studio album The Mission. The band have been a staple of 'Rock radio' playlists throughout this time, with songs including Crystal Ball, Come Sail Away, Lorelei, Blue Collar Man, Renegade, The Grand Illusion, Too Much Time On My Hands and Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man).

A group of Styx fans have organized an online petition lobbying the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to recognize the '70s and '80s superstars by inducting them. Styx released their self-titled debut album in 1972 and first became eligible for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

According to published reports, composer Sandy Wilson passed away today, August 27. He was 90 years old.
