Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida, but that doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered his dream job in Seattle, a job that would take him away from his beloved grandparents. He tells them, but the news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick from moving. The resulting action is one hilarious moment after another. (more...)

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of "I Hate Hamlet," the comedy that conjures the ghost of actor John Barrymore, on Monday, November 5, at 7 p.m.  Barrymore will be played by four-time Tony Award winner Boyd Gaines. Playwrights Horizons Announces Live For Five Lottery For Heather Raffo's NOURA

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director Tim Sanford, Managing Director Leslie Marcus) will, from today, November 12, through Thursday, November 15, accept entries for the Live for Five online lottery, giving out $5 tickets to the New York premiere production of Noura, from 9 Parts of Desire playwright and actor Heather Raffo and director Joanna Settle. The Washington Post deemed this "epic-feeling, nearly searing portrait of a woman torn between cultures and family" the "best premiere of the Women's Voices Theater Festival" when it made its world premiere in Washington, D.C. earlier this year. Produced in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company, it will be performed at Playwrights Horizons from November 27 to December 30. Playwrights Horizons created Live for Five in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. Since its inception, over 3,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the initiative. (more...)

Bickford Theatre Announces Cast of A DOG STORY

The Bickford Theatre at the Morris Museum has announced the cast for the New Jersey premiere of the musical comedy A Dog Story. A hit in its Off-Broadway run in late 2016, the play will be directed by Bickford Theatre Producing Artistic Director Eric Hafen. A Dog Story will be performed from April 12 - 22, 2018. Full casting was announced today for Pride Films and Plays' production of Joe DiPietro's FUCKING MEN, which will begin a two-month run in the Broadway, Pride Arts Center, on July 1. In this present-day updating of Schnitzler's LA RONDE, ten men - a hustler, a soldier, two college students, a businessman and his husband, an adult film actor, a movie star, his agent and a playwright - all have physical and emotional desires to connect. Pride Films and Plays Executive Director David Zak, who will direct the production, announced the cast today. It will include Whitman Johnson of PFP's HIS GREATNESS (the Hustler), Luke Halpern (the Soldier), Kumar Rohit (Marco, the graduate student), Conor McGarry (the College Student), Matt Frye (Leo, the Teacher), Jay Espano (Leo's businessman husband Jack), Roy Samra (the Porn Star), Lars Ebsworth (Sammy, the Playwright), Alex Iacobucci (the Movie Star) and Nick Schrier (Donald, the Agent). Porchlight Music Theatre is proud to announce the next mainstage production it its 2017 - 2018 season Merrily We Roll Along, January 26 - March 11,  2018, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, with direction by Porchlight Music Theatre Artistic Director Michael Weber, associate direction and musical staging by Porchlight Music Theatre Artistic Associate Christopher Pazdernik and music direction by Aaron Benham at Porchlght's home, the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn Street. Merrily We Roll Along is based on the play by the same name written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. The performance schedule is Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. (March 4 and March 11) and 6 p.m. (February 4, February 11, February 18 and February 25) with a weekday matinee Thursday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m. There is no 4 p.m. performance Saturday, Feb. 3 and no 7:30 p.m. performance on Thursday, March 8. Larry Eisenberg is the winner of this year's BroadwayWorld Award for Best Director of a Local Play, Lost in Yonkers, at Group Rep. He earned his MFA from CalArts, received a DramaLogue Award for the world premiere adaptation of Isaac Bashevis Singer's Stories for Children and has directed numerous productions at GRT. His favorites include Lost in Yonkers, Poor of New York, Trip to Bountiful, Over the River and Through the Woods and his original play, Nautilus, which was later turned into a feature film. He currently serves as one of the two Co-artistic Directors at The Group Rep. He is at present directing/rehearsing The Chinese Wall set to open January 26. Tell us about the background for the play. Marion Ross Brings MY DAYS HAPPY AND OTHERWISE to the Old Globe

This evening of storytelling with Ms. Ross and Associate Artistic Director Eric Keen-Louie will take place on Monday, April 16, at 7:00 p.m., on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage of the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Westport Country Playhouse Announces Script In Hand Playreading On April 23

Westport Country Playhouse will present a Script in Hand playreading of the comedy, "Breaking Legs" by Tom Dulack, on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m.  The reading will be directed by Anne Keefe, Playhouse associate artist and curator of the playreading series. Tickets are $20 each. (more...)
