For the first time since 2019, Heritage Theatre Festival will return to live performance this summer with a new name that aligns with its home at the University of Virginia and a new vision to broaden the scope and reach of Virginia's longest-running professional summer theatre company.  

Kicking off on Saturday, April 23, New Rep's We Are Storytellers series will open with a two-show festival celebrating storytelling through music, dance and spoken word.

Stars in the House for Ukraine, an 11+ Hour telethon of the weekly streaming show, raised $139,000 for the International Rescue Committee's humanitarian efforts for those affected by the war in Ukraine. That total is inclusive of a generous matching donation by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which matched the first $50,000 worth of donations.

The National Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorale, in partnership with The Washington Chorus, will present America’s Requiem – A Knee on The Neck. The long-awaited season program features the world premiere of Adolphus Hailstork and Herbert Martin’s A Knee on The Neck alongside Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem.

This week I saw productions of two decades-old musicals, each written by one of theatre's great composer/lyricists, which, in their original productions, ran a combined total of nine performances on Broadway.

Diablo Ballet will celebrate its 28th Anniversary with a one-night only performance at the Lesher Center for the Arts.  Featured on the program is the company premiere of Penny Saunders' Sur le Fil which premiered with Tulsa Ballet 2 in 2018.

Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET) is thrilled to be the home of the long-awaited world premiere of THE PRETTY PANTS BANDIT, a new Atlanta-born pop-rock musical by Chase Peacock and Jessica De Maria. The opening is March 31, 2022, and the play runs Wednesdays-Sundays through April 17, 2022. 

Transport Group has announced that the revival of its acclaimed 2011 production of The Patsy, written by Barry Conners, performed by David Greenspan, and directed by Jack Cummings III, will begin performances Wednesday, March 30 at Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand Street. 

The University of Chicago and Folks Operetta have announced the Korngold Festival, celebrating and exploring the life and music of one of the 20th century’s most successful yet underrecognized composers, Erich Wolfgang Korngold.

Following the cancellation of VAULT Festival, Jude Taylor’s ‘Is He Musical?’ will now get its world premiere in three productions with a wraparound season of events as part of LGBTQ+ History Month.

Tonight, NBC will air its sixth live musical production. Following in the footsteps of The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Hairspray, and Jesus Christ Superstar, the peacock network will be presenting Annie. Based on Harold Gray's comic strip titled Little Orphan Annie, this musical tells the story of a little orphan with equal measures of pluck and positivity who charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in New York City in the year 1933.

SDSU's Musical Theatre program presents Steel Pier from December 2 – 7, 2021. Steel Pier marks the first SDSU musical presented to in-person audiences since the pandemic began two years ago.

The cast from the Tony and Olivier Award-winning hit Broadway musical “Come From Away” will perform on NBC’s “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” special prior to the lighting of the iconic Christmas tree. The special will also include performances from the Pentatonix, Harry Connick Jr., Carrie Underwood, and the Radio City Rockettes.

Tammany Hall is an immersive theatrical time machine that transports the audience to New York Election Night in 1929. The setting is Club Huron, the actual Tammany Hall clubhouse that is now SoHo Playhouse, where performers portraying real historical characters guide attendees through 15 rooms as scandal, corruption, and intrigue are revealed.

Theatro Sao Pedro premieres the satirical ballet chante The Seven Deadly Sins, the last collaboration between Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht. The production will be musically directed by Ira Levin, who will command the Theatro Sao Pedro Orchestra. The Seven Deadly Sins opens on November 5th. In all, there will be 8 recitals until the 14th.
