CAP UCLA 2018-19 Season Features 14 Events At The Theatre At Ace Hotel DTLA

UCLA's Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) and The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles will once again team up to present 14 bold programs by leading innovators and acknowledged masters in contemporary dance, music, theater and literature, featuring pioneering champions for social justice and diverse world views. Offering more than 40 unique events and 60 performances, CAP UCLA's new season runs from September 22, 2018, to May 10, 2019, and will open and close with programs at Ace.

Kevin Winkler To Introduce The Film SWEET CHARITY At The Quad Cinema as Part of Bob Fosse Film Series

This coming Saturday, August 4 that 1:00pm, Kevin Winkler, the author of the recently acclaimed book, BIG DEAL: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical, will introduce the film "SWEET CHARITY" at the Quad Cinema, 34 West 13th St NYC 10011. The film is part of the current Bob Fosse film series. This screening will be the uncut, original roadshow version of the film, that starred Shirley MacLaine, Chita Rivera, John McMartin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Stubby Kaye, Paula Kelly, Ben Vereen. This was Fosse's first film that he directed. The film received three Academy Award nominations.

Hartwig Fischer Introduces The British Museum's Annual Review 2017/18

The British Museum lent 2,200 objects to 81 venues outside the UK from Toledo, Ohio to Hobart, Australia. In November, India and the World, a history in nine stories opened at CSMVS in Mumbai. Supported by the Getty Foundation and Tata Trusts, this is the first exhibition of its kind, a collaborative partnership between CSMVS, the National Museum of Delhi and the British Museum. Indian objects were selected from collections across India and the British Museum provided global objects to show the interconnectivity of India to the world throughout the centuries. The exhibition received over 200,000 visitors in Mumbai and has recently opened in Delhi.

TCM To Pay Tribute To Musicals In June Programming Special 'Mad About Musicals!'

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. Enrollment is open until June 17 and fans can sign up for the course at musicals.tcm.com.

BAFTA Announces Shortlist For International Student Film Awards

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has today announced the shortlist for the 2018 BAFTA Student Film Awards. Following the international expansion of the Awards in 2017, this year's shortlisted 60 films have been selected from the 469 submissions by students at film schools in 35 countries across the world, including Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Israel, Kenya, Lebanon, Russia, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.

Dick Hyman Comes to The Bickford Theatre, 5/7

The virtuoso jazz pianist Dick Hyman will perform at the Bickford Theatre on Monday, May 7, at 7:30 PM. His solo concert, "Dick Hyman Plays the Decades," features his interpretations of popular songs from Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker" written in 1892 to Stephen Sondheim's "Losing My Mind" from the 1971 musical Follies. Some of the other selections to be performed are the Lennon-McCartney hit "Norwegian Wood," the popular standard "Stella by Starlight," and "I Feel Pretty" in celebration of the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein. Mr. Hyman also promises to perform his tour-de-force version of Fats Waller's "Minor Drag."

UCLA's Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) presents the return of New York-based SITI Company in the West Coast premiere of the theater is a blank page, a much-heralded collaboration with celebrated visual artist Ann Hamilton. The site-specific performance and interdisciplinary installation, which blends elements of theater, visual art and literature, will run from Saturday, April 28 to Saturday, May 12 at Royce Hall. There will a discussion and signing for BIG DEAL: Bob Fosse and Dance in the American Musical by Kevin Winkler on Thursday, 10th at 5pm at the The Drama Book Shop 250 West 40th St. (bet B'way & 8th Ave). Noted author Ken Bloom joins Kevin to discuss the book. With his trademark hunched shoulders, turned-in stance, and stuttering staccato jazz movement, Fosse was the groundbreaker in the development of choreography for the Broadway musical. The book is a fascinating look at the evolution of the man as a choreographer and director.
