The Orion Ensemble concludes its 29th season with a concert program welcoming guest violinist Stephen Boe and guest violist Roger Chase and featuring works by Mozart and Borodin at three venues: New England Congregational Church in Aurora (May 8), PianoForte Studios in Chicago (May 11) and Nichols Concert Hall in Evanston (May 15). Led by Principal Conductor Jorge Soto and featuring Venezuelan trombonist Angel Subero, the performance will include works by Mendelssohn, William Grant Still, and Astor Piazzolla. To enhance the Latin American experience, the New Phil will be providing guests with a special treat from Che! Empanada in Newtonville to take home following the concert.

The NEC Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Ken Schaphorst celebrates the centennial of Jaki Byard in a live concert on Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at Jordan Hall, 290 Huntington Avenue, Boston. Byard was one of the cornerstones of the groundbreaking Afro-American Music and Jazz Studies Department assembled by Carl Atkins and Gunther Schuller at NEC in 1969.
