Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier theatre company, announced today that youth actors from its Conservatory will present the Tony Award-winning musical, WONDERFUL TOWN. The story follows the adventures and misadventures of two sisters, Ruth and Eileen-one an aspiring writer and the other a dancer-who move from their comfortable hometown in Ohio to Greenwich Village, a bohemian area in New York City to fulfill their dreams. Wonderful Town will perform at Hillbarn Theatre (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City) November 2-4, 2018. The performance schedule is as follows: Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets for all performances are $20 and available now at hillbarntheatre.org or by calling 650.349.6411.

The Bob Fitzsimmons Memorial Scholarship, this year, is being awarded to Albert Stanaj, a 2012 graduate of Archbishop Stepinac High School. He has been demonstrating an interest in theatre since the age of 9. Albert would come to Stepinac with his parents to pick up his older brother who was in rehearsal for SOUTH PACIFIC. Besides running around the theatre chasing other cast members' little sisters, Albert became a student of the theatre at that time.

Broadway star Betty Garrett died in Los Angeles at the age of 91. Garrett died Saturday at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, most likely from an aortic aneurysm, according to her son Garrett Parks. Garrett was in good health and even taught her musical comedy class at Theater West on Wednesday night. Theater West is a non-profit organization which she helped found. Friday, she checked into the hospital with heart trouble and died the next morning, with her family at her side.
