The GRAMMY Museum® Grant Program announced today that $200,000 in grants will be awarded to 14 recipients in the United States and Canada to help facilitate a range of research on a variety of subjects, as well as support a number of archiving and preservation programs. Research projects include a study that will examine how rhythmic cues can improve movement for older adults and people with Parkinson's disease, and a study that will examine how neural integration through music enhances long-term memory, among others. Preservation and archiving initiatives will rescue and organize 400 hours of at-risk reel-to-reel tapes of Native Radio—Bay Area:1973–1978; preserve, digitize, and ensure public access to 316 rare interviews with performers, songwriters, and music executives from the Country Music Hall of Fame; and digitally restore rare kinescopes of the 1950s television series 'Stars Of Jazz' (KABC-TV, 1956-58); among others.

Park Square Theatre announces the hire of its new Artistic Director - the third in the organization's history - after a five-month national search that attracted 113 applications from across the country (22 from Minnesota) and two from the United Kingdom.

The Orchestra Now (TON), the visionary orchestra and master's degree program founded in 2015 by Bard College president and conductor, educator, and music historian Leon Botstein, will open its fourth season on September 15, 2018. Five individual series and two special events will present 17 different programs offering innovative combinations of familiar and lesser-known repertoire through May 19, 2019. To date, the young members of TON have performed close to 100 concerts for more than 35,000 New Yorkers.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. The popular intimate nightclub, The Sorting Room, returns this summer to the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, delivering a compelling and eclectic mix of music, comedy and cabaret with nine diverse sessions from June 22 – July 21, 2018, 7 pm. The Sorting Room  transforms the Lovelace Studio Theater into a 140-seat custom built nightclub space that offers Los Angeles audiences a rare opportunity to experience some of the best and emerging talent in cabaret, live contemporary music, spoken word, and more. Birmingham Hippodrome co-produced a jam-packed free Hip-Hop festival at the theatre and in the Southside streets (Mon 7 - Sun 13 May). Across a week of festival fun, there were dance competitions, rap battles and family-friendly workshops, plus graffiti and street art - set to the sounds of the festival from live DJs and MCs. Now in its third year, B-SIDE Hip-Hop Festival attracted a wide audience of Hip-Hop fans and novices alike from around the world.

Millbrook Playhouse (David E. Leidholdt-Producing Artistic Director, and the Board of Directors) is thrilled to announce that on Friday May 4th at 7pm and Saturday, May 5th at 4pm and 7pm, the Uptown Music Collective (a nonprofit school of music, based in Williamsport, PA) will take the Playhouse stage to perform the music of the group frequently called "The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World," The Rolling Stones. Theater at Monmouth continues its long-standing tradition of providing access to arts education for young people in Maine with its annual Page to Stage tour. TAM has provided literature-based education programs in schools and community centers since the Theater's founding. Education Tours make adaptations of classic literature accessible to a geographically and economically diverse audience. "The live performance is something students don't see often anymore," said 4th grade teacher Pamela Prescott of Belgrade Central School. "[Attending a] performance of classic literature is a great connector to the classroom." Jolene Libby, 1st grade teacher at Turner Primary School said, "I believe it to be a real and authentic experience that students might not experience otherwise."

Thousands of people attended the Garden State Film Festival's much-anticipated homecoming in Asbury Park March 22-25, 2018. The spectacular four-day weekend event welcomed over 26,000 celebrities, honorees, film industry execs and movie fans to multiple iconic venues throughout Asbury Park. The Festival included networking opportunities, industry workshops, informative panel discussions, open talent casting call, live screenplay reading, star-studded red carpet gala and entertaining parties - all in addition to the screenings of 246 films from 22 countries around the world. The weekend culminated with the 2018 Garden State Film Festival Awards Gala Dinner event on Sunday evening, where this year's honorees were recognized and Festival winners were announced.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet (ASFB) celebrates the third year of its four-year residency at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the performing arts (The Soraya) with a program of works that celebrates the company's commitment to creating new contemporary dance on Saturday, April 7 at 8:00pm. ASFB will perform the new work Half/Cut/Split by world-renowned Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo, as well as Where We Left Off (2011) commissioned by ASFB and choreographed by Nicolo Fonte, and Return to a Strange Land (1975) from Ji?i Kylian, Artistic Director of Nederlands Dans Theater with music by Leoš Jana?ek.   

When I saw the Menier Chocolate Factory's production of Travesties on the West End last spring, I was stunned. Director Patrick Marber had captured Tom Stoppard's sprawling, absurdist epic with a captivating electricity that I had never before seen. Embracing the full power of Stoppard's explosively theatrical dive into the past, Patrick harnessed every bit of the play's sharp hilarity, keen topicality, and, most of all, boundless thrill. I knew that I needed to make Marber's triumphant and endlessly entertaining production part of our 2018-2019 season and give Travesties its first-ever Broadway revival since its 1975 debut, which won the Tony Award® for Best Play. A vortex of caricatural historical figures, clashing political philosophies, and radical artistic movements, Stoppard's early masterwork dismantles just about every convention of the Western stage and reassembles their parts into an entirely original theatrical machine. There's no simple narrative thread in this play, no strict adherence to the laws of our physical world, no clear divide between fact and fiction -- and no end to the tenets of artistic tradition that this whirlwind of a comedy deconstructs.
