Artistic Director, Hunter Foster has announced Redhouse Arts Center's 2020-21 Main Stage Season featuring several Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning productions that are sure to delight audiences of all ages. With every production this season, Redhouse will utilize its versatile theatre space to treat audiences to a thrilling theatre experience. 'We found our audiences really loved the intimacy of our productions, as they did with our musical, Rent', stated Foster. 'Having the actors so close to the audience really elevated the story's emotional level. No other theatre in Central New York gives such an immersive experience to an audience the way Redhouse can, and we want to continue experimenting with our spaces for the 20/21 season', he concluded. Building on this year's success, Redhouse will offer five Main Stage shows with some productions offering an extended three week run.

Brooklyn indie-rock darlings Pom Pom Squad released their emotionally charged sophomore EP Ow last year and today are sharing their first new music of 2020 -- a vibrant bubble-grunge love song “Red With Love” just in time for Valentine's Day. Debuted on Paste Magazine, the dazzling video was filmed at Brooklyn DIY space The Baumann and NYC venue The Dance -- it was one of the last videos shot there before its scheduled closing on February 18, 2020. Lead singer/guitarist Mia Berrin explains the track: “'Red' is my first proper love song and a pretty unguarded look into my heart, my relationship anxiety, and my acceptance of my own queerness. The first time I walked into The Dance, I was so inspired. I knew it was the perfect place to capture the feel of this song. I'm sad to see it go.”

Trinity Rep will continue its 2019-20 Season with a timeless classic retold, A Tale of Two Cities. Directed by Tyler Dobrowsky, who last brought audiences Little Shop of Horrors, this is a beautifully vibrant production that is at once sweepingly epic and profoundly personal. Based on the novel by Charles Dickens and adapted by resident acting company member Brian McEleney, the story famously depicts the best of times and worst of times. World Music Institute (WMI) continues to celebrate its 34th year in NYC with a fresh roster of global artists for the Spring/Summer 2019-2020 Season.

In 2019, Brooklyn indie-punk/grunge darlings Pom Pom Squad released their emotionally charged sophomore EP Ow, and today they're sharing their dynamic take on FKA twigs' “Cellophane.” Of the cover, frontwoman Mia Berrin says, “I know I'm not alone in saying that 'Cellophane' was one of my absolute favorite songs of last year... I've been a fan of twigs since I was in high school and heard 'Hide' off of EP1. She was one of the first artists that made me seen as a woman of color occupying an alternative space, and I could immediately hear myself in the sweeping ebbs and flows of this song.” 

Acclaimed actress, comedian, writer and activist Fran Drescher makes her Café Carlyle debut, June 16 a?" 20. The Queens native has received two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal as the lovable Miss Fine on the CBS hit series The Nanny, a show she also created, wrote, directed and executive produced. Fran's next sitcom was based off of her real life relationship with her gay ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson -- a show she also produced, created, and starred in called Happily Divorced. Currently, she is starring in NBC's new sitcom Indebted where she plays a baby boomer gone broke who has to move in with her adult son and his young family. An accomplished film actress, she's won Esquire's Five Minute Oscar for her memorable performance in the mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap. She has co-starred in countless films throughout her career with the likes of Robin Williams, Dan Aykroyd, Tim Robbins and Billy Crystal, not to mention such esteemed directors as Rob Reiner, Milos Forman and Francis Ford Coppola. A frequently consistent scene-stealer on The Groundlings stage, Michael Churven takes the directorial reins offstage to deftly guide his amazingly funny cast of six (Samantha DeSurra, Chris Guerra, Ariane Price, Mary Scheer, Annie Sertich and Alex Staggs) to an evening of hilarity in GROUNDLINGS MIX TAPE. In a limited four-week run of Fridays and Saturday nights, GROUNDLINGS MIX TAPE features a Best of Sketch selection from past shows with a rotating cast. As in The Groundlings tradition, the writer of a particular sketch usually takes the lead, while the others give their all in support, in true ensemble form.

On December 6, the Roberta Piket Sextet will pay tribute to the music of legendary jazz pianist and NPR radio host Marian McPartland, a close friend of Piket's who passed away in 2013 at the age of 95. An acclaimed pianist, organist, composer, and arranger, Piket will be joined in concert by the five-time Grammy-nominated vocalist Karrin Allyson.

The musical A Little Princess by Andrew Lippa and Brian Crawley, is based on the 1905 novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It first appeared on stage in Mountain View, California in 2004 and premiered in London in 2018. The story opens with Sara Crewe in her room at her school in London. She tells Becky, a maid at the school, about her life growing up in Africa and how she came to be in London. The musical takes the audience on a journey filled with memories, wild flights of imagination, magic, heartbreak, friendship, and love.

Dear Readers, a few years back I was fortunate enough to see a production made possible by ACT and the Kenan Fellowship in Directing, a?oeGuards at the Taja??. A show that still sticks with me to this day. And I say a?oefortunate enougha?? as it was only on stage at ACT for a few performances. Now ACT has brought us the latest recipient of the Kenan Fellowship, Rey Zane, and her production of Anna Jordan's a?oeYena?? and I can tell that this brutal and gripping play will also be one to stick with me thanks to some stunning direction and performances.
