The Broadway at Birdland concert series presented singer/pianist Steve Ross in “Songs I Love” last night. Steve looked back at his long career and revisited songs from his first recording (1979) and his more recent efforts celebrating Alan Jay Lerner, Noel Coward and Stephen Sondheim. KT Sullivan who is currently appearing with Steve at the Irish Repertory Theatre in LOVE, NOEL: The Songs and Letters of Noel Coward (written and devised by Barry Day) joined Steve for a few songs.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF), New York's premier French cultural and language center, today announced the 2019 Crossing the Line Festival, featuring 11 performances and a gallery exhibition from a geographically, generationally, and artistically diverse group of artists whose work transcends genres and boundaries. All performances are world, US, or New York premieres; they are united by their convention-breaking fearlessness as they confront topics from social injustice to personal demons. Many of the performances pay homage to legendary artists of our time and previous eras, while the theme of migration and its transformational effects on identity informs several others. This morning at New York University's 187th Commencement Exercises at Yankee Stadium, playwright Terrence McNally was honored with a Doctor of Fine Arts degree, honoris causa.

This morning at the Broadway League's 2019 Spring Road Conference, playwright Terrence McNally was honored with the Distinguished Lifetime Service Award as part of the Broadway League Awards, which recognize the contributions of those who have displayed exemplary service to the Broadway industry and are considered innovators of their craft.

The Grammy Museum will be hosting NOTES ON LIVING: ALL-STAR JAZZ WITH TALES BY BRIAN DOYLE May 14, 2019 as a joint benefit for WordTheatre in the Schools (WITS) and the Grammy Museum. WordTheatre's artistic director Cedering Fox will be producing and directing this evening of selected stories by award-winning author Brian Doyle, read by a star-studded cast, and accompanied by an all-star jazz band led by Starr Parodi. Cedering opened up some of her early evening time to speak to me.

The Wanderer, a new musical based on the life of Rock n' Roll Hall-of-Famer Dion DiMucci, the multi-platinum selling American music pioneer, will open at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in the Spring of 2020 prior to a Broadway run.

Artistic Director Mathis Huber of Austria's recreation-GROSSES ORCHESTER GRAZ announced today following this evening's concert performance that American-Taiwanese conductor Mei-Ann Chen has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the 17-year-old orchestra. The appointment extends through the 2021-22 season, beginning September 2019.

Gurney's LOVE LETTERS, the third production of the inaugural season of the new Alan & Diane Lieberman Theater & the JCAT's 12th season, at the Feldenkreis/Hanono Cultural Center at the Michael-Ann Russell JCC/Sanford L. Ziff Campus in North Miami Beach, Florida. Running from February 6-17, 2019, LOVE LETTERS is directed by JCAT's Artistic Director, Michael Andron. Lighting Design is by Zachary Pitchman, with Costume Design by Carole Barou-Mootoo. The production is presented through the MARJCC's Cultural Arts Department.

Producer Ken Davenport (Once on This Island, Spring Awakening) has obtained the Broadway stage rights to the life story of the great American singer, songwriter, actor and activist, Harry Belafonte.

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Broadway debut of 'Love Letters', a Play by A.R. Gurney, Theatre at the Center (TATC) will showcase one exclusive performance on Sunday afternoon, February 3, at 2:30 p.m. This production, under the guidance of artistic advisor Linda Fortunato, will star Phil Potempa, a noted newspaper columnist for the Post Tribune and Crista Zivanovic, features editor of The Times of Northwest Indiana. The performance proceeds will benefit Theatre at the Center in Munster.

Sundance Institute will gather 20 celebrated and revered expert voices across film, art, culture and science to award feature-length and short films shown at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival with 12 prizes, announced at a ceremony February 2 that will be livestreamed at sundance.org and on YouTube. Short Film Awards will be announced at a separate ceremony on January 29 and will also be livestreamed. The Festival takes place January 24 through February 3 in Park City, Salt Lake City and Sundance, Utah.

Theatre for a New Audience presents About Alice, the world premiere of a new play by Calvin Trillin, inspired by his 2007 memoir of the same name. The production, directed by Leonard Foglia, plays January 8-February 3, 2019 at Polonsky Shakespeare Center (262 Ashland Place, Brooklyn). 

The Academy of American Poets is pleased to announce that Joy Harjo and Natasha Trethewey have been named its newest Chancellors, an honorary position that has been held by some of the most distinguished poets in the United States, including W. H. Auden, John Ashbery, Elizabeth Bishop, Lucille Clifton, Yusef Komunyakaa, Adrienne Rich, and Mark Strand. Poets elected to the Board of Chancellors become an important part of the history of Academy of American Poets and as of 2019, only 115 poets have been elected to this board since it was formed in 1946.

...If We've Never Been To The Moon? will run at The Marlowe Studio from Friday 7 to Sunday 23 December. The play, produced by The Marlowe and written by their Literary Associate James Baldwin, is about Noel, a man on a quest: to find a man who filmed him falling more than 25 years ago, sent it to You've Been Framed, and didn't share the £250 with him like he promised. But, this festive season, Noel has decided he wants his cash. But how do you find someone when all you know about them is that they owned a video camera 25 years ago?

Door County's award-winning Northern Sky Theater has announced the line-up for its annual holiday concert at the Old Gibraltar Town Hall. Home for the Holidays will offer the opportunity to reunite with Northern Sky favorite Jeff Herbst and his friends Ryan Cappleman and Tom Donoghue for an uplifting evening of intimate seasonal songs and delightful holiday humor.
