New Philharmonic Presents DIE FLEDERMAUS At The MAC

New Philharmonic, under the direction of Maestro Kirk Muspratt, opens 2019 with Johann Strauss II's "Die Fledermaus," libretto by Karl Haffner and Richard Genee, Saturday,Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. The operetta, staged by Michael La Tour, will be sung in English. New Surry Theatre Holds Open Auditions For Little Women

This adaptation, by Tomas Hischak, remains very faithful to Louisa May Alcott's timeless and deeply influential work. The story, narrated by the older Josephine March, follows the four March 'Little Women' and their family and community as the girls grow from young sisters to young women, bolstered by imagination and the strong love within their family. This is a story of finding the balance between independence and the strong ties of family, as Jo March makes her way in the world, not only as her own person but also charting new territory for women. From the Pulitzer Prize-winning play wright Tennessee Williams, take a look through the fading memory books of Tom's fractured life in The Glass Menagerie. Living with his controlling mother and introverted sister Laura, who lives in her own world of make believe, Tom struggles as the pillar of his family. As the memories are revealed, Tom and his mother Amanda, wish for nothing more than for Laura to find a loving husband. When Tom sets up a blind date for his sister with his coworker from the shoe warehouse, Amanda's obsession and frustration is pushed to new extremes, while Laura is left vulnerable and exposed like her glass figurines. Kansas City Fun Tours is adding a new comedy tour on their trolleys. Just in time for Women's History Month, The Crazy Little Women Tour rolls out March 1 and 2 to educate and entertain both locals and tourists about the women who helped build Kansas City. The two-hour tour is led by Wendy Thompson and Jessica Whitfield (in character as Moonbeam and Valencia) and showcases the adventures-and misadventures-that propelled KC women into the limelight through the years. The dynamic guides present a light-hearted look at local women including Loula Long, Annie Chambers, Sally Rand, and Tiera Farrow, along with different takes from each side of the feminist generation gap. Love is in the air this Valentine's Day, and Skylight Music Theatre is celebrating by announcing the leads for Kiss Me, Kate, running May 17 June 9, 2019. The cast will be led by R na Roman playing Kate/Lilli Vanessi and Andrew Varela as Petruchio/Fred Graham. Kiss Me, Kate sizzles with onstage romance and backstage passion. It won the very first Tony Award for Best Musical and features such unforgettable songs as So in Love, Another Op'nin', Another Show, Why Can't You Behave? and Too Darn Hot. Blending the irreverent humor of William Shakespeare and Cole Porter, this brilliant battle of the sexes follows a tempestuous couple as they struggle to present a musical version of Taming of the Shrew. This madcap play about a weekend with the eccentric Bliss family will star the MFA Class of 2020 and a guest performer.  Director Jerrold Scott's production will take the audience back to the 1920's and remind them of the joy of life and fear of boredom.
