From Friday, October 11 through Thursday, October 17, BAM presents New Orleans-based artist Garrett Bradley's revelatory modern silent film America (2019), a poetic, visually sumptuous work that challenges the idea of Black cinema as a “wave,” or “movement in time,” proposing instead a continuous thread of achievement. 'From the moment I saw this blazingly original, poignantly dreamlike short at this year's Sundance Film Festival,' says series programmer Ashley Clark, 'it felt imperative to offer our audiences the chance to luxuriate in this ambitious short-form work on the big screen.' Each program throughout the series features the 30-minute short paired with films, talks, and special guest appearances.

Casting has also been announced for Wendy MacLeod's SLOW FOOD, the Festival's season closer. Peri Gilpin and Dan Butler, who played Roz Doyle and Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe on the NBC sitcom "Frasier," will star alongside Broadway veteran Greg Stuhr in this new comedy directed by Jackson Gay.

As a gift to the communities of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Orchestra will present a free concert in celebration of the Year of the Pig, joining the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) for a special one-night-only performance in Verizon Hall on January 29, 2019 at 7:30 PM. Assistant Conductor Kensho Watanabe will share the podium with the SPO's Resident Conductor Liang Zhang, leading members of both orchestras in a side-by-side concert featuring the world premiere of the newly revised version of Peng-Peng Gong's Symphony No. 10 ("Peking Fantasy"), a work co-commissioned by The Philadelphia Orchestra and the SPO. Tickets to the Chinese New Year concert are free and can be reserved at www.philorch.org/ChineseNewYear.
