He went on to collaborate with Sondheim on Into the Woods and Passion, with William Finn on Falsettos and Spelling Bee, and to write plays and musicals including Act One, Amour, and Twelve Dreams.

I think this story talks to the broader immigrant experience. A lot of what many people are experiencing now is about identity. What is identity? And what does assimilation mean? Who are we assimilating for?

There’s a strange dichotomy that exists in live theater. I may not like the material, but will still find reason to love its execution. And at Theater West End, they’ve culled together a company of players who help elevate the material of POTUS into a comedy that now exists thanks to their approach to the characters. They form a symbiotic relationship with the audience throughout the two acts to make us still care for them, for their arcs, and for their resolutions – no matter how far-fetched it may seem. This is where the production of POTUS shines.

The play touches on a lot of things, obviously immigration, but the title, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES, it's also, all of these women are either fat, or just not thin, or not this conventional, small-bodied woman, right?

The history of shows that have transferred from off-Broadway to Broadway is well documented. Hundreds of Broadway plays and musicals started out off-Broadway before making the leap to a Broadway house. But much more rare is the circumstance of a show starting out off-off-Broadway (that’s right, two ‘off’s!) and traveling all the way to the main stem. One of these shows is playing right now, and is a major theatre success story with off-off-Broadway roots!
