The Museum of Pop Culture today announced details for its upcoming exhibition Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design which will open on June 18. Tonka, the 38-year-old chimpanzee who appeared when he was a baby alongside Alan Cumming in the film Buddy, has been found and rescued by PETA following a years-long legal battle with his former owner, Tonia Haddix. Tonka was discovered beng held in a tiny cage in Haddix's basement.

Theatre Royal Stratford East today announces its 2022/23 season. The season includes Anthony Neilson's poignant and comical delve into the nature of mental illness, The Wonderful World of Dissocia, directed by Emma Baggott, which opens in September 2022.

In the midst of it all is detective Sam Shikaze, a nisei private eye...and he’s got a story to tell.

A Noise Within’s next production Mary Zimmerman's Metamorphoses will open May 14, 2022, with previews beginning May 8th. A re-envisioning of ancient Greek myths for a modern audience, Metamorphoses is set entirely in and around an on-stage swimming pool. ANW’s co-producing artistic director Julia Rodriguez-Elliott directs a cast of ten ANW resident artists who tackle over 85 roles in six myths: Alan Blumenfeld, DeJuan Christopher, Geoff Elliott, Rafael Goldstein, Nicole Javier, Kasey Mahaffy, Sydney A. Mason, Trisha Miller, Cassandra Marie Murphy and Erika Soto. Julia took some time from her multiple duties as Metamorphoses’ director and ANW’s co-producing artistic director to discuss Metamorphoses logistics, as well as her successful working relationship with co-producing artistic director husband Geoff Elliott.

Today, Strolling Bones Records releases Here Again: A Retrospective (1994-2002), a re-release of music by New Hampshire roots-rock band Say ZuZu. Strolling Bones founder George Fontaine Sr. originally tried to sign Say ZuZu in the 90s but the label deal fell through; with this retrospective, Strolling Bones is reintroducing the band and giving them a second shot. 

To celebrate the incredible cinema New York African Film Festival brings to BAM each year during DanceAfrica, the nation's largest festival dedicated to African dance and music taking place May 27—30 at BAM looks back at the decade-plus history of FilmAfrica with a series of recent films and hits from past festivals.

Director Roberta Emerson has devised an intriguing way to approach the story's outer framework without altering the libretto. The story opens not with an unseen narrator recounting the enchantress's spell on a prideful prince and his servants but instead with a young Black girl (played sweetly by Gabriella Milchman) who opens a storybook in a modern-day bedroom and reads those words aloud from it, soon seeing herself in the story - just in time for the glorious opening notes of 'Belle'...

The pair’s mutual love and admiration is on full display on ‘Carry Me Home’, the new album out May 20 which features a mix of Staples’ and Helm’s bands operating at the peak of their powers as they work their way through an eclectic setlist of tunes made famous by the likes of Simone, The Impressions, Bob Dylan, and The Rolling Stones.
