The world premiere of a spanking new version of the Tim Rice musical comedy Blondel gets its London premiere at the Union Theatre, now through Saturday 15 July. Press night is tonight 23 June 2017.

FEINSTEIN'S/54 BELOW will be hosting a Reunion Concert of the 1971 Broadway musical, INNER CITY. The original Broadway production, directed by Tom O'Horgan, featured music by Helen Miller and lyrics by Eve Merriam.  The show was based on Merriam's book "The Inner City Mother Goose," a collection of updated nursery rhymes reflecting life of the disenfranchised inhabitants of America's urban inner cities circa 1970. The production ran at Broadway's Barrymore Theater from December 1971 to March 1972. Featured cast member, Linda Hopkins, was awarded a 1972 Tony Award for her performance.

Producers have announced the cast for the world premiere of a spanking new version of the Tim Rice musical comedy Blondel.

It's hard to believe that the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar has been around since 1971. What started life as a concept album a year earlier, the musical is now a perennial favorite to present among professional and non-pro companies.

A brand new version of the Tim Rice musical comedy Blondel, which follows the trials and triumphs of an ambitious minstrel in King Richard the Lionheart's court, will get its London premiere at the Union Theatre from Wednesday 21 June - Saturday 15 July.

Jesus Christ Superstar is a worldwide blockbuster that audiences have embraced for over 40 years. In its season finale, Stagecrafters offers a fresh perspective, reimagining the musical as played by a troupe of actors breaking into an abandoned theatre to re-enact the final days of Jesus Christ. All the while, the production illuminates the process of putting on a show, as audience members witness the actors' production coming together before their eyes.

Set for Easter Sunday (April 1, 2018), NBC will bring to broadcast television “Jesus Christ Superstar Live!,” a one-of-a-kind live staging of the iconic 1971 Broadway rock opera with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The event will be executive produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Marc Platt, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. 

Casting is today announced for Girl from the North Country which previews from Monday 10 July 2017 with a press night on Wednesday 26 July 2017.

SandRico Productions will present a musical theatre work-in-development with a public reading of 'From the Bodoni County Songbook Anthology:  A Musical Revue (of sorts)' with original text and lyrics by Frank Gagliano and music by the late Claibe Richardson. 

If his four shows currently running on Broadway are any indication, 2017 is the year of Andrew Lloyd Webber. Webber is the first composer to have four simultaneously-running Broadway shows since Rodgers and Hammerstein managed the feat in 1953. And Atlanta Lyric Theatre is joining in the Webber conversation this spring with their production of Jesus Christ Superstar, a rock opera with music by Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice. The popular show, which has seen an impressive three Broadway revivals since its Broadway debut in 1971, has always been and is still beset with difficulties. Most problematic is that Rice's lyrics aren't nearly as worthy of note as Webber's music. As the show is sung- through with no spoken dialogue, the lyrics are responsible for the bulk of the storytelling, but the characterizations of nearly all of the principal characters are thin and unsatisfying. Still, Alan Kilpatrick, the director of Atlanta Lyric Theatre's production, does a nice job with his retelling. Though the choreography is somewhat uneven, the cast is, for the most part, musically strong, especially in the case of Haden Rider who, in his role of Jesus, turns out to be this production's superstar.

On Dec. 9, 1993, Glenn Close played her first performance in the Los Angeles premiere of SUNSET BOULEVARD. A year later, she reprised her role at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre and, six months after that, earned her third Tony Award for her portrayal of Norma Desmond.

Stage Right Professional Theatre Company will bring the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice classic Jesus Christ Superstar to the Palace Theatre Thursday, April 13 through Saturday, April 15.

Bristol Riverside Theatre continues its 30th Anniversary season with the hit rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar, running March 21-April 16.  With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, Jesus Christ Superstar is directed by Keith Baker, music directed by Douglass Lutz, with choreography by Stephen Casey and features Julian Alvarez, Derrick Cobey, Patrick H. Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts and Deaf West Theatre (DWT), the performing arts organizations behind the Tony Award-nominated and Ovation Award-winning revival of Spring Awakening, reunite to bring multiple Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee's At Home at the Zoo to life in an innovative and new production. Edward Albee's At Home at the Zoo begins previews on March 7 and will open in the Lovelace Studio Theater at The Wallis on Friday, March 10.
