The Des Moines Playhouse is keeping theatre LIVE in Des Moines with a unique new initiative: Live Theatre Drive-in. Starting June 12 and continuing nearly every weekend through Aug. 15, The Playhouse will present three, two-person cast plays in its parking lot, with audiences remaining safely in their cars listening via a radio frequency.

The Des Moines Playhouse announced its 102nd year of live theatre at a party Monday, Feb. 24, 2020. The 2020-21 Season includes seven musicals plus drama, comedy, and shows for the entire family. Although STAND! is full of romance, it is boldly honest in its historical depictions. Xenophobia and racism take centre stage in the story. Canada gets at best an ambivalent treatment, as a place where the lucky are lucky but the unlucky struggle just to avoid harm. One of the central questions of the film is the conflict between individual and institution - a defining issue in North America going into 2020 as well.

Michael Kirk Lane, the winner of the 2018 BroadwayWorld Cabaret award for Best Show, and a three time Manhattan Association of Cabaret award nominee, returns to his alma mater, Siena Heights University, in Adrian MI, to headline an evening of holiday music. The Des Moines Community Playhouse held the 2019 Dionysos Awards on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019. The theatre honored 14 backstage, guest services, and education volunteers, and announced 12 acting award winners. The evening began with a number from A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, on stage now through Sept. 29, 2019.

United Solo, the world's largest solo theatre festival, is bringing together over 130 shows from all over the world for its tenth anniversary. For the first time in over a century George Gershwin's very first musical, La La Lucille, will be performed - not on Broadway as it was in 1919 - but in the intimate Studio Theatre at Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) in Sturgeon Bay. This riotous, fast-paced farce about a married couple who plot to become temporarily divorced in order to claim an inheritance, opens Thursday, July 25 and runs through September 1st. When the scheme goes awry, hilarity, hijinks, and tap dancing ensue in this not-to-be-missed show.
